Yeah, a gun would be a good deterrant. Just the threat of having one, should, should be enough to push a thug onto another target.

and if it doesnt deture them, the first one to drop dead from a bullet wound will deture the rest.

"near 5 Points" can be many places. i'm guessing not one of the more populated / popular areas. Could be an alley. Could be an empty parking lot. Who knows.

I'd like to know exactly where it was, and it sickens me that people do that to other human beings

I am not saying this didn't occur, but I have searched the local news sites and I can't find anything about this. It would seem something this horrific would get some sort of mention.

Agreed but the immediate surrounding areas are heavily trafficked and you would think someone would've heard screaming.

As for carrying a gun… would you be able to get to it after being hit by a car? I’m speculating with little details but this seems to be a situation where having a gun might’ve made things worse. If the attackers robbed the girl too and in fact she couldn’t get to her gun / purse before the attackers… the gun could’ve been used on her and / or others in future attacks.
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Carrying a gun while riding a bike and possibly doped up from drugs with the intent of shooting anyone that hassles you is not a good idea. Aiming that gun to shoot to kill might be a problem.

On the other hand, maybe this is part of a new scheme by gun advocates to encourage gun-toting cyclists. It certainly could deter road rage incidents. Lord, help us!

b/c all the facts have to be reviewed first. ya know, due dilligence.

Stephen, were the other 2 attacks in Riverside confirmed?

8:30 on a Friday night, 5 Points area is a beehive of activity.  The outside dining area at Hovan's is right next to Grassroots Market and is always full of people at that time of the evening.  Even the side streets are busy with traffic.  Where exactly did this attack take place?

To further what TheKillingWax said, although I don't want to turn this into a neighborhood issue, I have a lot of friends who live in Riverside because it is "safe" while looking at my Springfield neighborhood with a sense of fear, this is a good reminder that any neighborhood anywhere one should use an excess of caution, especially in times of economic distress with crime rates increasing. Without a doubt this is a terrible crime.

Dog Walker

Economic distress does NOT cause this kind of crime.  Crime rates are decreasing according to FBI statistics.

Not according to what the JCCI reported about the Quality of Life here in Jacksonville:

Crime rates are going up in Jacksonville.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

Nope. I got nothing. I could have sworn that there was a woman under the influence of something that was using a payphone off Stockton Street that was jumped by a few guys, raped & beaten in an abandoned house, and walked to a store afterwards.Police suspected that perhaps the guys knew here from somewhere (drug activity). Perhaps a month ago. Maybe i'm dreaming.

The attack happened on Goodwin Street, not in Five Points proper, and the assailants used the car to hit the girl from behind.

:(  I live on Goodwin.   Sigh.

My heart goes out to all these victims.  Its truely a shame.
