On a side note, The Simon Properties folks are in town today, and tomorrow.  Both the Town Center, and the Avenues are better performers in the Simon properties portfolio.

BS Co:  Don't take this the wrong way but, how do you know this?  I'm a little skeptical on the fact that the SJTC and The Ave are better performers in their portfolio, especially when you've got a lot of major malls (Florida Mall, South Park, Lenox Square/Phipps Plaza, etc) in that portfolio...
Don't get me wrong... if its true then that's great news, but I was just curious.  Are you affiliated with Simon Corp?

I think all BSC was saying is that both the Avenues and STJC are considered to be good performers by Simon...which kind of contradicts the opinions of many on this site that the Avenues is dying.

The SJTC is one of the top performing new shopping centers in the country as is the River City Market Place. I heard this from a developer who attended an international retailers convention. I don't know how many of you go to the RCMP but that place is packed especially on Friday or Saturday nights.

A Macy's at the Avenues mall will make my wife so happy.

Their portfolio consists of over 350 properties on 3 continents.

This could significantly expand if their proposed bid to buy General Growth Properties, which is currently in Ch. 11.

If true, I actually really like this move.  A Macy's at the Town Center would be nice, but it really isn't needed.  But Macy's could be a bit of a game-changer for the Avenues. It could be enough to pump some life into a mall that's getting to that point where it could go one of two ways.  Personally, I really like the Avenues. It's still a beautiful facility and still has a lot of strong tenets, but that dying mall sickness is slowly starting to creep in. Would love to see it staved off for another decade.

I think what you are seeing at the Avenues is a lot of stores coming to the end of their 10 year lease at the worst time for the Avenues.  Remember you're at the 20 year point this year, and I bet a lot of folks just chose not to renew.  Ordinarily, this would be okay, but right now, we are in a recession, and a lot of retailers aren't expanding.

If a Macy's went to the Avenues, many of those stores might resconsider and renew leases.

The Avenues makes the most sense.
Accessible by all, and more central to everyone that would shop there. St Johns and Clay County residents are more apt to go to the Avenues versus SJTC.

Macy's seems to prefer indoor style malls as well, especially in Florida.

Avenues Walk stalled? Please they are bursting at the seams with a new Dollar Tree and Platos closet.  Its the upscale destination Kimco was hoping for when the proposed the idea!

LOL, I hate to say this (well, maybe I don't) but any chance of that place every being considered upscale was diminished when Wally's opened up.

Don't get me wrong, I haven't been sippin' on the Walmart hater-ade; I pop into the mart for stuff just like many but I don't think the area could every really be deemed upscale anymore...

Its interesting that a company that has been around for so long, but never in Jax generates this much excitement.

the fact we're the 12th largest city in the nation, and a top 40 metro is what is stumping me as to why they and others are not here yet or will be soon.

They all think we are poor and uneduated folk down here in North Florida...heck even Burdines...the Florida store didnt want to take a chance on Jacksonville.

SJTC should hold out for a Bloomingdale's or Nordstrom.  Plus, Macy's would be direct competition for the Dillards they already have.  Bloomie's or Nordstrom would fill a niche they are lacking while being a cut above the existing department store.
