They all think we are poor...in North Florida...

When measured by total personal income, they're right:

Jacksonville, FL MSA...........................................$50,862,000,000
Orlando-Kissimmee, FL MSA..................................$70,047,000,000
Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL MSA..............$99,253,000,000
Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, FL MSA......$232,522,000,000

The devlopers involved in the controversial "Freedom Commerce" wetlands expansion project hinted at "upscale' orientation such as Macy's.
The fact that there was so much 'alternative' previously existing or vested such retail in the area was a key reason Federal (Clean Water Act) Permitting did not happen or was greatly modified.

Freedom Commerce folks had wetland issues trying to mitigate a "river head" I believe.

There was a "headwaters" issue and drama but beyond that, standard Federal Wetland Permit protocol must consider available "alternative" before accepting negative wimpacts-plenty of alternative/future upscale retail in the area provided effective argument against permitting.

I was involved in the opposition to Developer application-the file became packed with 'retail' study.

well, i think the Jacksonville MSA could support a Macy's....I mean they arent what they used to be. I could care less if we have one or not.

Forever 21 was supposed to be the anchor for Avenues Walk.  However, I assume that project must be stalled.

when forever 21 is your anchor, you've got problems!

Ditto...  I mean, I'll probably end up doing some shopping there if they come, but in all honesty, I've lived happily this long without one here....

that is a stupid way of looking at things...of course the other areas are more...after all they are larger...perhaps it should be per capita income....or divide the area's total income by the # of Macy's in each.

Actually, the more important number would appear to be "per capita" income and its stratification.  I.e, if there are 20,000 "millionaires" in Jax and that supports an "upscale" department store, that may be all they need to know.  The fact that there may be another 800,000 at under $25,000/year income may not matter.
Hey!  Whatever happened to just plain ol' COMMON SENSE!!

Jaxson

Gainesville MSA's total personal income is $8,000,000,000 (2007) and they have a Macy's.

I think Freedom Commerce also had problems finding wetlands in the same "basin" to mitigate with.
Is that correct?
St Johns Water Management did not help with their opposition to destroying the wetlands either.

You calling finehoe's comments stupid is rude, and definitely hurt chances of getting a finehoe!

Its interesting that a company that has been around for so long, but never in Jax generates this much excitement.

Lots of folks here arent from Jax.

Explain your point?

Jacksonville is at the bottom of the list per capita as well.

Don't get your panties in such a twist...Macy's ain't all that.

I agree that no store is worth getting in a tizzy about but then I am not much on shopping.  ;)

City-wide per capita, as I demonstrated before, may also not be the right number to look at.  I would expect Macy's or any other retail to target how many of its ideal demographic is within a certain radius of the prospective store site.  If there are adequate numbers to support the subject store, the rest of the City wouldn't seem to matter much after that.
