LOL, no way anyone is taking Gurley with the 3rd pick. Trade down to mid to late 1st round and you'll have your chance!

Or trade up.

Either way, too big of a risk for me.

...and this earlier PFT article says that the Jags are torn between Fowler (Bradley wants) and Cooper (Caldwell wants). So that means the GM won, with the 3rd pick, Amari Cooper LOCK!!!  ;D

Another big mistake. Was there no punter available?

Last year our problem was not the Defense. They played well enough to win half the games. Our offense struggled mightily because our two rookie WR's were never able to be on the field at the same time. Damn, and they left Leonard Williams, the absolute consensus best defensive player, on the board.

Cannot believe this pick. Next season, when we are being outscored by all our opponents, we'll remember this.

I have seen mostly positive comments by those who cover the sport for a profession. Of course Twitter is less positive, but that is just normal for social media.  Felt like they did right thing.  So much young potential talent on offense from last years draft.  And this position if pretty damn important in the defense we run and most say he was the best.  Saw some one on NFl Netowrk said some had lowered Williams due to potential shoulder issue.

The problem with the team, last year, was getting freakin' first downs!!!!!!!!!

Not rushing the passer. Fowler was a good college player, not SEC Defensive player of the year. He did not lead the nation in sacks. Our pass rush was actually pretty damn good last year. Plus most of our free agent cash has been spent on the defense. This is so disappointing. Maybe we can make up for it in later rounds. Get Blake some damn weapons to throw too! A game breaking wide out! SCORE some damn points.

Keith-N-Jax

MM, you do realize the draft is not over right?

MusicMan

Yes, hence my statement "perhaps we can make up for it in later rounds"

Keith-N-Jax

There's nothing for us to make up

Yeah, MusicMan, you're jumping the gun a bit there. We're off to a good start; remember, they are following the Seattle model. Secure the defense first, then build team depth, then build your offense. Those WR's we have now will be much better as a unit in year 2 of playing with Bortles; Blake, himself, will be much better in year 2.

But we do need a difference-maker on offense to help Blake, no doubt about it. When I look at the chessboard, I'm okay with that being a focus *next* year *if* one doesn't develop this year.

Solid strategy, to me (but I, too, would have loved Amari as I indicated earlier).

I agree with wanting the Jags to go offense in the first round (I was wishing for Cooper) but now that we got Fowler, I'm all in with this pick; Like you said, we have time to make up for offensive shortcomings in the later rounds (ala Lee & Robinson in the 2nd round last year).

I disagree with with the Jags 'having to go with Williams best player available if picking defense' take. Dante is playing at a hybrid LB/DE position (a position we could use help in) and Williams is at DT, two totally different positions. The Jags already have plenty of defensive tackles to plug up the middle, with the newest to the team being Jared Odrick.
