Audrey Moran would be a killing Mayor for Downtown and surrounding neighborhoods -- areas that should be economic development assets for Jax as they are for every other major metro.

With the former Exec Dir of the Sulzbacher Center as Mayor, Jacksonville will be able to officially claim its title as Social Service Capital of the Southeast, even more handout seekers will travel here to take advantage of expanding services, and the taxpayers can expect future additional millage increases to maintain and grow budgeted PSG's to support the influx of needy.

The first candidate that plans to support existing ordinances (like Sulzbacher Center as a TEMPORARY homeless shelter) gets my vote. I'd move to an igloo in northern Greenland before voting for any supporter of increasing social services in a Jacksonville election. The City just can't support its unsustainable social welfare model anymore.

I will not vote at this time.  I do not know enough about any of them.  I do not know their platforms or even party affiliations.  Glorious Johnson just switched from Dem to rep recently.  I cannot endorse anyone until I know more.

Other way around, C/w Johnson changed from R to D recently.
I agree, lots of research is needed to sort through this lot, and any others that may pop up between now and Spring 2011.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

If Allegretti won't run, nominate him, if elected, prop him up and make him serve. We need people with character and who have vision to run the city. All of the candidates listed, while nice people, have no real vision to me. Hazouri just voted to raise our taxes, you think I want him again? Fuhget it!
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

"This is a game-changer. This is what I mean when I say taking Jacksonville to the next level."
-Mayor Alvin Brown on new video boards at Everbank Field

I don't really know enough about any of these people to select one. Who are the viable contenders for the democratic ticket?

copperfiend

I am as excited by the list of candidates as I was when I did the dishes at my house last night. Might as well just engrave Dan Davis on the mayoral nameplate.

Which Party is Carlucci with now? Do we expect that party affiliation to stay the same for the next two years?  Disclaimer I have a personal problem with Carlucci.

No, although I thought he was wrong about that one.  Mine is more personal early in his political career he said something to a reporter that hurt my family.  It was a set up question from Winston Dean who was trying to angle a story about my Father. Matt did not know what he was talking about but commented anyway.  Long story short Carlucci, Winston Dean and the T.U. who all where there when they thought the story was one thing disappeared when the State ethics board confirmed nothing inappropriate had happened. (the T.U. did print about one sentence in the back of the paper) So what he did is not the worst thing in the world but I haven't fully let it go. My jab was just about some switching back and forth of affiliations which he has done.

We should start a new write in vote:

"THE METRO JACKSONVILLE 5!"

We'll all share the seat... Platform of VISION, VISION and some more VISION!

I assume by the fact you have quoted zoos opinion from 6 months ago, that you are taking exception to their sentiment. Can you elaborate as to where you believe they are wrong? Simply reposting it doest explain your point.

Not knowing anything about Moran, it seems like a legit fear.

Dan B

Well, we now know how you feel about Zoo and SPAR. As I also know Zoo I dont really need that, or the further SPAR assessments. What you have not really explained where she is wrong about Moran.

I really don't have an opinion about her, or her candidacy for mayor, so I am asking for the sake of trying to understand how she will be good for the urban core communities.

Not knowing anything about someone isn't a legitimate basis to fear that they would do anything in particular is it?

I don't really know anything about David Axelrod for instance, but it would be insane for me to fear he was going to poison the water supply of downtown Boise on the basis that I don't know that he won't.

Go into the garage, pull out the old vinyl album, plop it on the record player, and commence listening to "The Pool Table" sequence from the musical, "The Music Man..."

REPEAT ad infinitum...

JACKSONVILLE!

God, can you imagine being the ONE CITY in the whole world known for it's benevolence toward our brothers and sisters? The horror! The Fear! The Humanity! Apocalyptic!

This modern view of cleaning up the city has gotten so bad that in Orlando, it is now illegal for a family of 10 to celebrate little Johnny's birthday in the park without a permit. Why? Because a local charity was doing a free lunch in the park event and someone thought it would hurt the resident rodents reputation.  The police busted raided the criminal site dumping the food and even smashing some of the equipment. The group vowed to return as long as hungry people lived in Central Florida, they hit the streets the following day, and got a repeat performance from the City, as well as being immediately arrested!

Moral of the story?  Make children's movies about being kind, loving and forgiving, heal the sick, feed the poor, speak out against police "brutality", support gun control and liberal causes, then crack the head of the first persons to put it into practice.

By the way, it was Abbie Hoffman that once joked about putting LSD in the Chicago Water Supply... The result included mobilizing the 101St Airborne Division of the US Army, and storming the city to "Sweep up the Trash."

If you judge someone by the company they keep, Audrey Moran doesn't come off looking so good.

Michael Muntz, Herb Peyton, Preston Haskell.

She may be a nice lady, a good mother and someone who has run a program to help people, but those are some dark forces behind her who are not noted for letting their creatures have much independence from their agenda.

Unfortunately, I think we are going to find all the "viable" candidates will have such play makers in their campaigns.  With the need to raise significant money, they can't afford not to.  It is what's wrong with politics.  As usual, one's choice will be more likely predicated on the lesser of evils than the greater of the positives.
Hey!  Whatever happened to just plain ol' COMMON SENSE!!
