This is some crazy stuff. I feel sorry for all of the victims.

Everyone be careful out there and look out for one another.

What comes around, goes around. These thugs may not get theirs immediately, but I'll bet even money we read about them as one of our future thugs in the Times Union reports. Once rape is not enough of a rush, they will graduate to more violent offenses. Sad, but true.

I have a double-barrel for upstairs (lock and load), and then looking for a Glock for more excitement. Could 1700 JSO carrying Glock members be wrong?

This was no simple rape.  This was a harrowing act of violence.

There is no such thing as a "simple" rape and ALL rapes are harrowing acts of violence. Saying that they aren't does a disservice to other rape victims. It tells them, that because they weren't hit in the face with a brick, their experiences weren't as "bad".

Statistially speaking don't most guns ...

1) get used against the owner (taken by the assilant)
2) the owner shoots someone that they did not intend to (mistaking a trusted person for an assailant/intruder)
3) gun is taken by a child and used to kill themselves or a playmate, etc.

Be sure these guns are properly stored.

Finally made the T-U website... someone over there must be reading the blogs. Amazing that a story like this took five days to come out.

I am freaking out about this. I run three times a week down Stockton every morning before it gets light. Why have we not heard about this sooner from Times Union? Now we can't run or bike down our streets without a gun? Is the park safe to run? How can we combat this and make our neighborhood safe for ourselves and our children? We were robbed a week before Christmas and have been on watch since then but now we can't even walk the streets.

Terrible story, hope all victims can find peace. I wish them all the best in their recovery. Very sad!

Gotta carry a weapon these days.  Have been mugged twice, once in Tampa and once here in Jax, at least the guys in Tampa were polite.  Won't happen again

Nothing but a faint vapor of a "news" story in the FTU this morning, and in defense of the FTU (which rarely deserves any defense) officials have been tight fisted with the details. One hopes this is a strategic move related to on going investigations, rather than keeping a lid on provocative revelations. The most helpful insights generated in the FTU reader blogs referencing Metro Jacksonville so here I post for the first time-a "newby"!
Not new however to the decline and loss of once wonderful neighborhoods.....my once idyllic native North Miami now a slum.It would be unwise to stroll down the streets of my childhood. And sadly,I see the very same trends here, right down to the demographic profiles.(Excuse me for using the descriptive P word).

With Riverside/Avondale and Ortega being one of the last best places the pace of the conversion is slowed to a degree due to complex boundary between the 'good' and the 'bad' neighborhoods and the 'good' not so willing to release territory in a wave of "flight".Upon reflection however I now realize how many have 'fled' the area. This is something we must recognize. The subject likely not 'allowed'.

In fact, the area is not safe. This list of carnage during the past couple of years is long. The subject of lawful defense via firearm is vast- police officer friends assure me the presence of law abiding and knowledgeable concealed carry citizens has been a helpful influence. When it comes to "profiling" no one is more apt to "profile" than the thugs. To a large degree they do 'pick' their targets.

No doubt... Welcome North miami...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

uh....ok.

actually, the urban core has been improving, not getting worse, over the past decade.
