Rape is one of the Worst Crimes, for that Person will never get over it. It will be hard to Move on but most do with a lot of help. I hope the JSO gets these guys and if found guilty in a court of law. Are given the longest jail time aloud

God really hope these guys would get caught, convicted and castrated.
Conformulate. Be conformulatable! It's a perfectly cromulent deed.

Will bet you lots of money that the creeps who did this do not live in the area, but were cruising for a victim.  If they lived in the area they would run the risk that someone would recognize them or their car.  This could have happened anywhere from Ponte Vedre to Baldwin.

If they had known the area they would have known that where they were was a highly traveled street and not taken the risk.
When all else fails hug the dog.

MTrain and Karl - Thanks for your advice I will take note of what you wrote! appreciate it greatly. I look forward to getting my own great equalizer.
To the anti-gun lobby in the room, next time you post or reference "statistics" you should also post a source - that's kind of helpful to be considered a legitimate reference, furthermore that source probably shouldnt be a liberal anti-gun group...  but an independent third party.

The San marco incident where a BK highschool student was assualted was referenced earlier, citing a possible link b/t the two crimes.

This just in:

Jacksonville police identify four teens in attack on Bishop Kenny runner

Jacksonville police have identified four teens in last week's unprovoked beating of a cross country runner for Bishop Kenny High School, police and the victim's mother told the Times-Union today.

Arrests of the teens, ages 15 and 16, are pending an investigation by the State Attorney's Office, the victim's mother said. She said she visited with a prosecutor Wednesday to pursue charges and was told to expect to be notified soon.

The mother said the attackers are known as neighborhood bullies by some residents of San Marco, where the incident occurred. She said her 17-year-old son suffered a head wound that required two staples to close.

"I hope they go right after them," said the mother. "What they did is not right."

Neither the mother nor the victim, a senior, are being identified by the Times-Union because no arrests have been reported. A state prosecutor who met with the mother said the case has been turned over to the office's juvenile division for investigation.

The attack occurred about 3:45 p.m. Oct. 7 in the 1700 block of Landon Avenue in San Marco.

The victim told police he was running with other teammates on an early release day when a car with four teens drove by them twice. The victim ignored one occupant's question of, "What's up?"

The vehicle stopped and one of the occupants got out and held the victim. A second occupant punched him twice in the face and the victim began to run. The second occupant caught him and punched him again. The others in the car then joined in the attack and taunted the victim by saying, "I thought you ran cross country. Why aren't you running?" a police report said.

A teammate of the victim's hit one of the attackers and was struck in return.

A nearby resident came out and scared the attackers off. One of the victim's friends ran back to the school, returned with a car and drove the victim back to the school. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The mother said her son returned to school the next day and continues to run for the team.

“He’s very motivated and nothing is going to stop him,” she said.

School officials said they are concerned about the attack and have reminded students about practicing safety. The school has also instituted a series of safety measures, outlined in a letter sent home to parents Friday. Those measures include the end of athlete runs in San Marco or any areas south of Atlantic Boulevard.

"The students’ safety is the most important thing,” said Sheila Marovich, the school’s director of development.

On the gun question; if you are not going to practice regularly, get a hammerless revolver like a S&W Ladysmith.  Even an ultra-reliable pistol like a Glock has enough moving parts that they are not as good for an inexperienced user as a revolver.  And, don't forget the concealed carry permit.
When all else fails hug the dog.

This is absolutely nauseating.  Regrettably, it's also the second rape in two weeks.

"Monday, September 21, 2009, starting at 12:45 am, a female was sexually assaulted by two unknown African-American males at different times and locations. The first assault occurred while the victim was using a pay phone near Mike's Grocery on the 2500 block of Edison Ave. The victim was grabbed by the first assailant and sexually assaulted in a nearby field. The victim reported falling unconscious for approximately 30 minutes. The victim did not provide any further description of the assailant.

Upon regaining consciousness, the victim began walking on Fitzgerald St. where she was forced into a vacant house by another unidentified African-American male and sexually assaulted. The victim did not provide any further description of the assailant.

After the assault, the victim walked to the Amoco on the 600 block of Stockton and contacted JSO at approximately 4 am.

The victim could not provide information about the suspects, could not identify the vacant house of the second assault and experienced difficulty answering questions asked by the reporting officer. The officer reported the victim was incoherent and had recently engaged in using illegal narcotics. The victim reported pain in her arm and the right side of her face and the reporting officer noted swelling on the right side of her face as well as dried blood under her nose.

The victim was transported to Shands for medical treatment and the case was forwarded to the JSO Sex Crimes unit. No suspects have been apprehended."

Quotehome alrm systems and defensive weapons. So far,as a newbie I am thinking that the metro forum will be of limited usefuklness.

Why wouldn't anyone have a home alarm system? Most companies give them away and the monitoring is 20 bucks a month. You also get a discount on your home insurance, so you probably save more with a system, than it will cost you AND you can feel protected. That was not a far leap now was it?

Defensive weapon is for when some narcotic infused melon-head breaks into your house at night and you want to remind him that not only is the alarm going off, but that he/she has a few seconds to make a life altering choice. If you have a guard dog, odds are the guard dog is mauling the melon-head before he/she gets close to you.

The old adage about Insurance is the same as these items, you don't buy insurance for today, you buy it for when you need it tomorrow. Roll the dice and go without insurance, sooner or later you will need it. I'd rather have these deterrents and not need them, than the alternative.

But, sometimes common sense is the least common thing.....

Re;home alarm and defensive weapons-that you will recall was my comment.

I am long established CWP holder too. I bought a Kel- Tech back when they were only $250,many in stock and .380 ammo not scarce.

You have missed most of the points.

Metro jax sure is a busy drive by.

This newbie will pull over to the curb.

QuoteRe;home alarm and defensive weapons-that you will recall was my comment.

No actually, your comment here was that Avondale/Riverside was not safe. Something we don't need right now with all that is going on.

QuoteIn fact, the area is not safe. This list of carnage during the past couple of years is long.

People corrected you on this statement, asked you to provide statistics, you have not. Just that the neighborhood is unsafe. I find it to be a callous statement with all that has been reported recently, but that's my 2 cents worth.

QuoteNot new however to the decline and loss of once wonderful neighborhoods

Now if you want to go trash some point in the middle of the woods and discuss beer, I got no beef with that, but start trashin my 'hood without anything to back it up, you'll get my dandruff up. Remember, you are free to leave the so called once wonderful neighborhood for a shack in the middle of nowhere, anytime you want.

Indeed the list of carnage is long. This forum obviously not suited to in depth study or information display;so briefly- rising tide of unsafe is evident by,for brief for instance: Over 600 hundred persons attending special crime meeting in Ortega. Recent articles in the RAP and Resident News publications. Neighborhood block meetings and shadco. And certainly the wave of never before seen episodes in far southwest Avondale.

Why is it that the recognition of a trend and problem can not be accepted by some.Do you work for the Cahmber of Commerce??

I promise myself not to become a 'hero' poster on this.

north miami... I am sure I can speak for many when I say I have enjoyed your posts so far.  I would encourage you to remain a poster.  Sometimes these discussions come down to a one on one of posters with differing opinions but while it may seem afrustrating excersize you are actually providing a useful counterpoint to many who are just observing or do not "have a dog in this fight". :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."
