Good news?

So, I was just taking a look around the tax rolls and noticed that a 2009 Tax Certificate owner for the Fat Kat building at Edgewood and Roosevelt has applied for a Tax Deed on the property. Is anyone else elated just at the propsect of that building coming into alternate ownership? If you have money and a good restaurant/retail idea, please look into it. I hear Murray Hill has no problems with parking ;)

Murray Hill Taproom will serve beers crafted in-house as well as other locally crafted beers and microbrews.  A full kitchen serving southern comfort food made from scratch and a live music venue provide a one-stop dining/entertainment/social venue for Murray Hill-Riverside-Avondale residents, with reasonable parking/public transit/walking/biking solutions.

Don't you lie to me, lethonius!!!! Is this serious?? Timeline??

lethonius

Hooked you, Captain.  Just throwing chum into the water to see if sharks circle; an informal market study, if you will.

I feel that if ideas get thrown out there and people get excited about it, someone might pick up on it and run with it.  A grassroots movement to continue the Murray Hill renaissance.

Look at what Kickback's did for King Street.  That is what Moon River Pizza did for Murray Hill on Edgewood, but after the slump over the past 6+ years, many have tried and failed to successfully occupy the east side of the block (1171, sushi place, Fat Kat, etc.)  Given the success of Kickback's, Salty Fig, Beer:30, Carmine's, Lola's, Pele's, etc., on King, it seems viable that another establishment that can offer quality food at a reasonable pricing point, a good selection of craft beer, and live entertainment while being accessible and spacious would be a sound business strategy.

Although I'm sure that if anyone had the capital to offer, I'm sure lethonius could and would make it happen. I hear he has a sugar momma at home, but that she's not that sweet.

Update: This building will be going to auction in about 6 months. US Ameribank initiated the tax deed process.

Could this be the "tipping point" for the rapid turnaround for Murray Hill that other similar locations have experienced?

I seriously hope that this gets moved into hands that will transform this place into something special! Moon River and the Billard Place are great and I'm sure they won't mind sharing a little more coolness with open store fronts across the road. If I had money, I'd completely rehab that place and open the window fronts back up! I'd personally open up a historcally themed place to honor Murray Hill. But hey, that's me and I don't have money or investors.

I would love to see fatkat close down. The building is in such horrible shape (always reeks of cigarillo smoke when i walk past it during the week and most of the boards are osb that has been painted, some of it rotting. Then Friday night all I can hear in my house is the bass from the club goers cars from about 11:30 until 3:15..
I think the old 1171 building was just purchased though and they are looking for people to rent it to. Either a home cooking place or a sports bar. They're trying to rezone the lot behind it for more parking.

Pine Street Partners, same people who own the commercial spaces where Bold City is brewed, purchased the 1171 building and lot behind. They have been actively marketing for a restaurant, nothing new yet. It won't sit empty forever, it is a great spot.

I detest Moon River Pizza,  but that is my opinion and I take my pizza business elsewhere. I think there are better options in Riverside / Avondale, but again, my opinion. Love the Crazy Egg, Edgewood Bakery, but these are more upscale areas. The fact the wine shop moved up the street to north of the bank, I don't think that I like the direction of 1100 block of Edgewood. The electronic cigarette shop, tattoo parlor, moon river crowd, is not headed in the right direction, for me, and you are seeing more upscale shops move further to Crazy Egg and that area. I think you will see more shops move out of the 1100 block area toward the Murray Hill Theatre and when/if the Library closes, would create an opportunity for more space as well.

Time will tell.

::) Tattoo shops are probably a tell tale sign that a neighborhood is heading in the right direction...not the opposite.

Upscale?

Bernie opened that spot up because the rent was awesome.  You know, and the privilege of being next to a seafood market and a weight loss center....

QuoteThe electronic cigarette shop, tattoo parlor, moon river crowd, is not headed in the right direction, for me,....

I'm guessing the 'right direction for you' doesn't include a couple of nice, dare I say... trendy?, hair salons, a great pool hall / pub, a yoga studio and the on-again/off-again Ju jitsu studio around the corner.  Let's not forget the Alibi either....  It's been around since before all of them and still doing just fine.

Well no shit, Sherlock.  That area some of the only remaining on the strip with available space.  Upscale, downscale, side-scale....  it won't matter.  If new businesses are moving in the area, that's about the only place they have left to go, but thanks for the 'insight'.

Time will tell.

Yeah, I'll nominate this for the dumbest quote I've ever seen on MJ. Can't wait to see the shops opening up in Avondale and Ortega. Nice.

Well, well, "Upscale, downscale, no-scale",  you don't know anything that doesn't come in a text message.  Thank you mister helper, keep your head down in the beer tray at the Alibi, we will call you when we run out of brain cells.

Well it looks like they have most of the kitchen equipment in the 1171 building. They came in with a uhaul a week or two ago and someone has been there daily cleaning/fixing as well as a new A/C unit outside. I've been told it will be a bar & grill "like a Ruby Tuesdays".....
I'm not sure I like the tattoo parlor either, my wife has said there are often guys outside checking out  the women leaving the yoga studio which she is not fond of. And I'm not sure how so many of these e-cig places keep popping up. I'm guessing markup is super high but I thought of this as something you bought online.
