Saw on LDI Line that a WalMart Neighborhood Market is headed to Merrill Rd at the intersection of Hartsfield.

Looks like they'll be taking over an old grocery store at that intersection.  Not sure what used to be there.

I think that used to be a Food Lion.

Yes, it was a Food Lion.  I still think a better location would be the old Publix store in the Gazebo shopping center at Ft Caroline and University.  The Food Lion location is between 2 Publix stores and is very close to the Super Wal-Mart off the SS Connector.

My question is when are we gonna get and Aldi?

Nearest one is Ocala.  Great value.  I read somewhere they are the only grocery chain that Wal Mart is worried about.  Loved shopping there when I lived in the UK.

Think an old publix store would have been too big, Neighborhood markets are pretty small and bare bones

Good question.  They are all over Central Florida now.  I wouldn't mind seeing a few open in Jacksonville's urban core.

The old Publix store in the Gazebo shopping center was a pretty small location, it was an older Publix store built back before grocery stores got as big as they are today.

I agree. An anchor store at Gazebo is desperately needed.

Drove by the Wal-Mart Grocery site - they've got a large section of the parking lot fenced off.

Being a WalMart Grocery is probably a large reason the proposed store on Atlantic and Bartram (near University) was killed.  Had it been a Whole Foods, or something "better" it would be open there.
Now there's some really lovely (sarcasm) apartments on the site.

^I still don't see why Neighborhood Markets are viewed as a huge negative here.  They really aren't any different from any other average grocery store.  They just happen to be owned by Walmart.
