Today is already the second day that the store is closed. No sign or anything on the door. Customers come, find out it's locked and leave.
Anyone know what is going on ?

Deuce

Is this place another one of the s-hole convenience stores we have in the neighborhood?

AlexS

It is a convenience store with the usual lottery, beer, cigarettes, etc. The amount of trash around it should now hopefully reduce.

There are several convenience and retail stores owned by the same company in the neighborhood.

The owner isnt the operator. If the store is closed, I assume he will just lease it out to someone else as soon as he can.

Deuce

Not if it is accidentally swallowed up by a sand worm.

Which I sincerely hope happens to every one of these s-hole stores.

Why does everybody hate these stores? i live close to this Speedway and the only people that hang out there are old guys. Kinda quiet...compared to 5-10 years back.

I live even closer to it and the trash blows in my yard. Napkins, empty cups, plastic bottles, plastic bags, black and mild wrappers, candy wrappers, lottery tickets, etc. Not directly a fault of the store as it's the customers throwing the stuff away, but still a side effect of having the store near by.

I know the old people hanging out there. I call them the "social club". They are quit and harmless. None the less, it took quite a few talks to convince them not to leave their liquor bottles behind on the SW corner of 8th and Perry. They bring their own liquor and get the mixers and ice from the store. Occasionally they buy beer there which they consume across the store.

Now why should I like the store ?

Well just take a match to it...

Sigh. If it was only that easy.  :D

When I suggested this for another location, someone offered to bring the marshmallows.

Honestly I'd rather see that Shell Station gone...the speedway isn't that much of a threat.

I'd rather see them both gone. Both are a nuisance.

Springfielder

True that....both could be gone and it would be a major improvement

Maybe all of the stores would be ok for keeping IF:

- those that shop or "hang out" there weren't throwing all of their trash into neighboring lots, or on the ground (so it blows into said lots)
- the proprietors made an effort to keep the store clean inside and out
- the proprietors in no way enabled or endorsed any illegal behavior

But many residents living near these establishments are not optimistic these adaptations have or will come about.

One more:

- the proprietors provide a restroom for their patrons so that after drinking all this beer they don't need to urinate behind the store, next to the dumpster or across the street

But as zoo pointed out, not very optimistic at this point.
