Which are the "nicer" parts of Historic Springfield?

Just driving around I can see that a lot E. 7th is nice. Silver & 4th is very nice, as well along the park. I know stretches of Market & Laura are too. Any other sections of note?

I happen to think East 3rd between Walnut St and Ionia St is one of the nicer blocks! Great houses and people.

Walnut's little renaissance has been nice to watch...

Everyone has their own personal tolerance for grit, so it's hard to say.

Personally, I like almost everything West of Main and South of 8th, while I think most streets East of Main still have a ways to go. However, some of the Eastern section with SRG construction have developed into nice little blocks.

It is funny how my attitude has changed as I spend more time in SPR, but I think I have also started to like the area west of Main and south of 8th the best.  For some reason I do not want to be on the other side of 8th St even though there are nice pockets up there too.

On the East side, Market near 5th and 6th is pretty nice too.

FSU813, are you still considering SPR?

I'm partial to the east side....like 6th and Walnut. However, all throughout the historic area are some fantastic homes and some still diamonds in the rough. It's all what you want to see it...

Definitely Market Street between 4th and 5th Streets!!!
We cannot be beat!

I'm partial to Walnut St., too, but we were attracted to it because of it's potential for commercial development. We wanted to be somewhere with the long-term potential for a walkable, urban, mixed use feel, and the ability to walk or bike downtown. However, there are certainly more residential-only parts of Springfield if one isn't as excited as we are about the possibility of restaurants, coffee shops, businesses, bars, etc. as their nearby neighbors.

Other faves: E. 7th, W 6th, Laura @ 10th, Market St., E 2nd St.

I'm with 77danj7 but then again I live there too! Every street has a good block and a worst block. Some have more good than others. You really have to find your own comfort level and keep in mind that that the crap house on the corner might one day be nicer than yours!

I agree with southbanker Market between 5Th and 6Th is the best. FYI jaxbydefault The person that owns the old store at the corner of 6Th and market expressed interest in selling it the last time I talked to her.

The further south you go the nicer it gets.  I lived at Laura and 2nd. in the 90s.
