Any idea on where the old Fort was located?

thelakelander

It was located where Bishop Kenny is today.

Interesting. Was it demolished for the shipyards?

thelakelander

It was probably gone a long time before then.

There's a small marker about the fort located in the Atlantic Blvd median.

^ Drive by this area regularly and never noticed this marker or knew of this history.  Looks like it is surrounded by vegetation.  And, putting it the median of a busy highway doesn't make it readily visible or accessible in this case.  I would think it would get more appreciation along a sidewalk with some kind of enhancement to make it more obvious to passerbys, maybe even near some parking where one could pull over to check it out better.

Too many historic markers are like this, just not in great locations for people to be aware of them or to read the history on them.

To add, this one looks like it might be more readable if was pressure washed once in awhile  ;D.

^It's definitely in an odd place. If anyone wants to see if, be careful attempting to cross four lanes of high speed traffic.

My Sister used to live there. Could see the River from the house. Giant Back Yard.
She should have stayed there.
