Lawrence is a generational talent and practically a video game creation. Many people were already projecting him as the number one pick in this draft during his sophomore in high school when was already good enough to start in bigtime college football and was the hottest recruit in years. He was NFL ready after his freshmen year and would have been the number 1 pick then. He's the best QB prospect to come out of college since Peyton Manning and some think he's the better talent of the two.

If he ends up not having a great career, it's likely due to something off-field or injuries. I don't think even the Jags can mess this one up. That said, they are still going to have to add a lot of quality pieces around him in order to be competitive.

I understand the pessimism with the Jags but what team would be a better opportunity for him.
If he's really that great, he'll be smart enough to refuse to play for Jacksonville and force a move to a better team.

Well, I *would* like to say the Dolphins. But beyond that - any of a number of teams. I think New England - they have a proven track record and need a good QB.

He need to go somewhere that will support him and provide him with the opportunity to have a great career. Jax are terrible and don't seem to know how to win.

It would be like Harry Kane choosing to play for Fulham. If he's going to leave Spurs, he's not going to go play for some pub league side just because they will pay him a lot. He's going to go somewhere to win trophies and set records.

The Dolphins have their QB. You could definitely make a case for New England but I think he prefers to live in the south. Also, you can make a case that Kane would be better playing for another team besides the Spurs.

I think he'll be a good fit in Jacksonville. He's a low-key guy from suburban Atlanta, is a Christian, and is engaged to his high school sweetheart. He'd probably prefer living in Jax to at least half the NFL cities.

He might. But he's probably also ambitious.

Kane would *definitely* be better off playing for another team besides Spurs. Had he not come through the youth system at the club, I very much doubt he'd still be there. But if - and when - he leaves, he's not going to a crap team that won't give him the opportunity to win silverware. He's going to go to a team with a winning track record and ambition.

Edit: Do the Dolphins have a "franchise quarterback" in Tua? I think it's probably too soon to say. And I certainly don't think he's anywhere near as good as Lawrence.

We should know more pretty soon. Someone is going to ask what he thinks of playing for Jax...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Of course. And odds are he will play for Jax if (or when, it would seem) they draft him.

He'll give a stock answer . . . blessed to have the opportunity to play at the pro level . . . I will help whatever team drafts me in anyway I can to win balll games . . . I just want to play wherever it is . . . etc etc.

Or... he may say... I  have really enjoyed the college experience and want to win another for Clemson. Sounds pretty open minded to me...

Interesting article, that somewhat alludes to Lawrence being the only thing that can keep the Jags in Jacksonville long term. Some positive stuff in it though.

QuoteAs one prospective coaching candidate said this past week when asked to shape up the NFL's openings: "With Lawrence, Jacksonville is the top job. That's the one."

Lawrence isn't the only draw. The Jaguars have an opening at general manager and are expected to have an opening at head coach when the season ends, creating the kind of clean slate "GM + coach + quarterback" synergy that can remake an entire franchise for 10 years or more. And lest anyone forget, Jacksonville is armed with the best salary-cap situation in the NFL heading into the offseason, with the bulk of its roster signed and currently more than $80 million in space to expend in a market that will be flush with free-agent options and not enough suitors. Only the New England Patriots have more money available, but far less of the current roster is signed than in Jacksonville.

Add all of this up and there is a seismic event setting up in Northern Florida. One that could change the fortunes of not only the Jaguars, but how the NFL views one of its most consistently tricky small-market teams — not to mention the slate of overseas games and the viability of London or other cities as relocation suitors.

Few draft picks in NFL history have had this much riding on them — and maybe that's what the Jaguars have needed to remake this franchise for the next decade or more.

Keep in mind 1st overall draft pick Matt Stafford has made the Detroit Lions what it is for a decade or more. Total playoff wins zero, so yeah...

MusicMan

Don't forget Joe Burrow. He was on track to have the best rookie year (statistics wise) for any rookie QB when he got whacked.....
If that happens to TL what will the jags and their fans do then?

This is one of the reasons I want to see the jags focus on the offense in the draft (i.e. draft best offensive player available ) and address defense and O line through free agency.

Seriously, folks on this site need to balance in just a hint of positivity.  I get it, Jags suck.  Fine without them, yada yada yada. At the end of the day, this is probably the longest running thread on here though.

The Jets suck.

How's that?

I am not sure I follow about how long the thread is, though. Obviously the team is very popular and sports threads tend to elicit lots of responses and lots of opinions. Everyone's an expert.

I didn't catch the games, just the final scores tonight.

Looks like Trevor & Co. got blown out.  Was that on him or other team elements?

Meanwhile, Fields and Jones both led their teams to impressive wins.  Is their stock rising relative to Lawrence?  He has now been on the losing side of championship games two years in a row.  I note both times were to SEC teams.

Meanwhile, the ACC is once again faring poorly in inter-conference bowl games.  Clemson and Notre Dame, the ACC leaders, played ACC schedules that made their regular seasons look good but then were "no shows" tonight.  ACC #3 Miami also lost to a lower ranked team.  Seems the ACC remains, more than not, notches below other Power 5 conferences most years.
