Larry's Giant Subs wants to join the Murray Hill movement.
The Jacksonville-based chain is making plans to open at 1050 Edgewood Ave. S. and seeks a zoning exception, waiver and administrative deviation.

Larry Raikes, who founded the company with his brother, Mitch, said the venture will be a new concept for the company.

He said the 3,500-square-foot restaurant will feature wood-fired stone pizza ovens, a full bar with local craft beers on draft, grilled Philadelphia cheese steaks, Wisconsin cheese curds, beignets and other specialties.

Raikes said the 125-seat restaurant, including patio seating, would hire more than 50 people.

I hate the look of this building, but at least it isn't going to be another Landromat.

Hopefully this new concept is good, because I can't really see a standard Larry's doing all that well on Edgewood.

For sandwich place, Larry's is  pretty much the best in town, IMO.  Way better than Firehouse.  Plus, they're a local success story, so good on them and good luck to them.

Yeah, I always preferred Larry's to Firehouse.

All these new places being proposed on Edgewood has me thinking of the proposed landscape work and "road diet" for the avenue talked about on ModernCities. What was the status or response from resident and the city to that project? Did the council member representing the areas have a say about it or take up the cause? Really should have been started last year but now with all these new businesses testing the waters on that street would they be keen to having all that construction along with the disruptions that will be inevitable?

The new construction may delay a lot of people wanting to invest in the area but should really pay off in the long run. Edgewoood Ave. along with Riverplace Blvd. and Riverside Ave. through Brooklyn do not need to be as wide as they are currently.

As a resident of MH and a frequent cyclist on Edgewood, there's absolutely no reason it should be four lanes wide with no bicycle lanes. It's insane.

I hope someone gets on this soon. The strip is only going to get busier for the foreseeable future.

Their drive through is pretty busy from 10 to midnight.  That's the best late night food you can get in town.

johnnyliar

Man, now I'm starting to wish the one in MH would just be a late night drive thru.
