Controversial pastor Ken Adkins has been charged with two counts of child molestation, and he surrendered Friday morning at the Glynn County jail, officials said.

One of the two charges against the 56-year-old Adkins is aggravated child molestation, said Stacy Carson, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Kingsland office.

District Attorney Jackie Johnson asked the GBI on Aug. 12 to assist the Brunswick Police Department in an investigation of an accusation of child molestation against Adkins, Carson said.

Lawyer Kevin Gough told the Times-Union he is representing Adkins and that he or a member of Adkins' family would issue a statement later Friday.

Gough said he believes the accusations against Adkins are said to have occurred in 2010.

My God. Can't say I'm surprised. This guy's method of protesting LGBT rights is even more creepy and sex obsessed than usual. Him getting caught in an affair or gay liaison would have been delicious schadenfreude. But child molestation? I can't even make a joke.

One things for certain: the anti-HRO crowd have included and organized around some very awful people.

My head just met my desk.   WTH.
Curry's office is probably scrambling over this one..... OR they are denouncing it now and rapidly, as they should.    I just want to curse, but the lady in my won't allow me (but trust me there are strings of words flying in my mind.)

Judge sends Adkins back to jail after prosecutors say he threatened to 'jump bail'

BRUNSWICK | A Superior Court judge sent controversial preacher and activist Kenneth Adkins back to jail Tuesday night after hearing recordings of phone calls Adkins made from jail in which he said he would "jump bond."

Chief Judge E.M. Wilkes III promised he would issue an order Wednesday morning on whether he will grant bail on two child molestation charges that have kept Adkins behind bars for more than a month.

Wilkes heard testimony from Adkins' fellow ministers from Tampa, Jacksonville, Waycross and Atlanta, all of whom said Adkins was no flight risk and would not intimidate witnesses if released on bail.

Wilkes also heard recordings of phone calls Adkins made from jail in which he urged the best friend of his now 21-year-old male accuser to contact him.

Adkins, 56, is accused of having sex with a then 15-year-old boy in 2010 when he was mentoring the boy at Greater Dimensions Church in Brunswick. One of the charges is aggravated child molestation, arising from a complaint the accuser, who has been identified as "AJ," made to Army personnel.

Adkins lawyer, Kevin Gough, argued to Wilkes that Adkins did not say he would jump bond that he instead said as soon as the court set a bond, "I'm going to jump on it."

Prosecutor Robert German argued that Adkins words were clear and that Gough was wrong.

"In his own words, he said I'm going to jump bail when I get it," German argued.

Wilkes listened to the recording several times but did not indicate what he he thought Adkins had said.

Although I wonder about the jurisdiction.  If the victim opened the complaint in the military, thats Federal.  The charges have been leveled locally, but who would have jurisdiction over the case, ultimately?

I think the verbiage of the article is confusing.  This is a purely state matter.  The Army would not have jurisdiction over Adkins and cannot prosecute him.  I don't think child molestation is a federal violation, unless Adkins transported him across state lines or something.  I think, from what I read previously, the victim was experiencing trauma and sought counselling from the Army and the complaint stemmed from that. I believe it was a "complaint" in the non-legal sense.

That's my understanding. The accuser just made the revelations to an Army counselor; the alleged crime is under Georgia state jurisdiction and is being handled by the Brunswick district attorney.

The trial against "bishop" Ken Adkins began today. The prosecutor dropped 2 of the counts in "an abundance of caution" but will be proceeding with 9 other counts.

Adkins has been speaking to the media lately. He says he's now convinced that his former anti-gay stances are "anti-Bible" and "believes that people, no matter their sexual identity or sexual attractions, should be treated with dignity." For the record, he had previously been on the pro-HRO side before getting hired by anti-gay churches and pulling a total 180.

This article also mentions that in the 80s and 90s he was a "drug-addicted con man" who has been arrested 27 times in Florida. He reinvents himself every few years. Now he's hoping that he can go be an advocate "for coeds who attend historically black colleges in the Atlanta area" or appear on an "'Apprentice'-type reality TV show where former convicts like himself vie for jobs on the outside".

Oddly, the most credible thing he says in the article is that his anti-LGBT shtick "initially came at the insistence of multiple Jacksonville churches". It sounds like a cop out, but this is clearly a man with no compass besides his appetite for money and attention, and the homophobes have demonstrated they'll side with literally anyone who promotes their beliefs.

Completely agree, he was so poorly informed at the HRO town hall meetings, that I *almost* felt bad for him. He repeatedly stated that no one should be denied service at a restaurant or be treated unfairly at work due to their sexual orientation but that the HRO was just a step too far, not knowing that those protections (in addition to housing discrimination) are what is lacking in federal law.

He was just found guilty on all charges.

Good to hear.  He has been on the backside of the law before and that drove him from Jacksonville to Brunswick.  Once relocated he would travel here from there every time a controversial issue came up to get "face time" with media to promote himself.  He played at several things politically here from claiming to be a politician, then a political adviser, set up several bogus business and then finally landing on the "Pastor" idea.  He was literally hounded out of town here by those he had messed over.  Glad justice has found him.
