A Philips Highway site cleared of a call center and prepared for development could soon host its first new construction — a Wendy's restaurant.
Wendy's is the first fast-food restaurant confirmed as one of the initial projects at the Shops of Philips, at the busy traffic corner of Emerson Street and Philips Highway.

A 3,500-square-foot Wendy's, with a drive thru, is planned on just under an acre at the 3100 Emerson St. site.

Project manager Larry Matthews, a vice president with landowner Demetree Brothers Inc., said the Wendy's site is under contract and scheduled to close in June.

Matthews said letters of intent have been submitted for a retail store and another fast-food restaurant, but he would not identify them.

"We're off to a good start," he said.

Gamechanger alert!!!   A Wendy's . . . . . . . . . with a drive thru!

Well, it's got to start somewhere...why not with a Wendy's?

Maybe it will fill a need for the people in that area. It'll certainly get some highway traffic, which is a good thing (out of town money is always good).

They'll need a way to feed the thousands of office workers in the soon to be proposed skyscrapers on the site.  This is just the first stage of an absolute GAME CHANGER

Haha...that is hilarious.

But it's good to see something develop in my old hood. Not that University Blvd/Emerson was ever that great, but it's definitely gotten worse over the past few decades.  At least University and Richard Rd had an iHOP and a few motels before. Now it's just an empty overgrown lot just like this corner of Philips & Emerson.

I'd been wondering when they would get around to starting that project. The land has been cleared for quite a while.
