Also don't forget that during the mid 90s/2000s, Americans went all "bigger is better" SUV crazy, and just overall worse MPG in the everyday vehicles people tended to drive. Case in point: The Geo Metro used to get upwards of 50 MPG highway.

Instead of making cars more & more efficient, we went the other way. Sure, I guess you could get a hybrid if you wanna take out a second mortgage for not that much of a gain.

There's a Gate Station on San Jose about one mile south of Hendricks Ave Elementary. There's a BP on Phillips Highway less than one mile from HAE.  Don't those serve San Marco in general?

Is there a pharmacy serving this area?  Please tell me where it is.

Robert's Southbank Pharmacy is right on Atlantic, less than a block from Hendricks.

Hybrid's do not have a horrible environmental impact and the costs have come down significantly. My wife got one for close to 12K,with only 10k miles on it. http://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/everyday-myths/does-hybrid-car-production-waste-offset-hybrid-benefits.htm

That being said is this a fit for the area not really but hell didn't stop 7-11 from taking the old pizza palace space in 5 points, but at least that was an existing structure.

The gas pumps have a promo recording feature........I hear "It's Better Here!" just before I hit the 'mute' button.
But I return, again and again to the Roosevelt Blvd./St Johns Ave facility, Thanks to the Mute button, and never having to actually go inside the building.

This is a game changer for the area.  As a resident of San Marco, not having a legit gas station or 24 hour place to buy beer/snacks are the two big drawbacks.  Cross both of those drawbacks off the list.  I can't tell you how many times I had to make an extra stop to get gas on the way to do something.  The BP is very hard to get to and I feel like I'm stepping into a time warp when I go there.

It's almost next to the Scottish Inn for crying out loud, how can anyone complain about it 'not fitting in to the area'?  I bet those complaining about the Daily's either don't live in San Marco or ride a skateboard.

The new store is looking like ought to be able to open any day now. I'm pleased to see ethanol free as part of the fuel selection.

I also have a dust spot on my sensor...

This is the first time I've been excited about a gas station opening.  Most folks take having a legit jiffy store and gas station for granted.  Seriously, this is much needed infrastructure.  If this place doesn't set sales records for the company I would be surprised.

I'm also unreasonably excited about a gas station, I count 16 regular pumps, some with diesel, plus 2 E0 spots on each end. They definitely seem to be anticipating some business.

They have no reason not to be a huge success, they're the only gas station in this area. I recently gave a lift to a guy and his kids whose car ran out of gas. I had to drive them up to the BP on Prudential - which would have been quite a walk for them with a gas can. And if that hadn't been open, as it often decides not to be, I would have had to drive them all the way out to the Gate on San Jose. There's a real demand for this right now and it's only going to increase.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

The ramp up of higher end Daily's and Gate stations is in anticipation of Wawa entering the market.  It's only a matter of time, so Daily's and Gate are building stores that will be able to compete with what Wawa has to offer.

Is that outdoor seating fronting Atlantic Blvd? Pretty swanky.

Yes. Here's the site plan and elevations from a few months back:
