So Cyprien also broke a finger  last night.  They are saying no surgery and should be back for regular season opener.  Sounds like hand injuries will be our injury of the year in 2015.

Couple things I took away from the game *take it with a grain of salt as it was preseason game 1*

1) Bortles looked pretty damn impressive. A couple dropped balls, one of which, would have definitely been caught had Thomas been in the game. I'm extremely excited about the potential of our red zone offense this season. Two tight-end set with Lewis/Thomas combined with Yeldon and Garhardt for short yardage. That's more like it.

2) One hit on Bortles where Joeckel got absolutely whooped, but aside from that, I thought the O-Line played pretty damn well. It was nice to see them getting scrappy with the Steelers.

3) Couldn't put much stock into the defense considering our entire DL was basically out of the game.

Overall pretty pleased!

Bortles looked very sharp. He showed exactly what we hoped to see. I don't want to get my hopes up, but man. He looks good.

Last year, 2014, Jags win 1st Pre-Season game with Bortles, proceed to lose last 3, and end up with the 3-13 season. Let's see what else they can do as a team the remainder of the month and into the fall. They have talent, but so does every team in the NFL.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

Blake Bortles looked great last night, the offense looked *very* promising, and next year still looks like a slam dunk for the playoffs. If we get lucky this year we could sneak in there, too, but we'd have to be quite lucky.

AHAHAHAHAHA, YES!!. This is EXACTLY what I came here for because I needed a laugh on a dreary Sunday.  Goddamn, Jags fans are some rose-tinted-glasses-wearin' mofos.  The defense looks like an absolute joke against the first team, then the offense gets some decent at best looks against a D that was half the second string, and we're a slam dunk for the playoffs next year.  I love this shit.

Do you even know what you're talking about?..Jags 4 DL starters are out, you do know that right? the only reason why that steeler WR got that open for that TD is because he pushed Jags DB down..watch the goddamn game before commenting..

I did watch the game.  Take off your Jag-homer thinking cap.  They got embarrassed on that first drive..  Wow, the front 4 starters are out? Because no NFL team is expected to have what is that called? Oh yeah, DEPTH.

WR only got open because he PUSHED THE DB DOWN? Are you insane? The receiver jammed Davon House and he got knocked on his ass. Wasnt even close to a penalty. Typical Jags fans: always with the excuses. Like I said: this is why I came here.  I LOVE this.  Please enlighten me more about how much smarter you are than me because you're sensitive about anyone calling your precious Jags what they are: a terrible team.  I'm sure that 3 and out to start was because the Steelers used a 12th man. Or because Yeldon was hurt, right?

You seriously don't know what you're talking if you don't think this is an improve team.

You can't tell a ton from pre-season games, that's the nature of the pre-season.

That being said, Bortles looked sharp and our offensive line looked a little better.
Nothing else to see here, except Rachel's usual skepticism.

Tampa's Jameis Winston reminded me of Byron Leftwich...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

MusicMan

Byron Leftwich in his first two quarters as a Rookie, or the Byron Leftwich who left here to join Pittsburgh?

Downtown Osprey

Sorry but having your entire starting Defensive line out for the game is a big difference maker. Depth or not.

No one here thinks the Jags are going to the playoffs, ideally, a 6-7 win season would be the projection most people want to see. Who the hell is screaming playoffs? Good lord calm down.

johnnyliar

I'm by no means a Joekel fan, and I think he'll end up being a bust, but he only got beat twice on friday. One was a sack, which sucks, and it was a glaring mistake, but it wasn't as shitty as a lot of people say it was.

The talk about Davon House is less warranted in my opinion. The guy was a stud up at Green Bay and would have been starting on most NFL teams last year if he wasn't buried on the roster behind HOF caliber players. In the past 3 years, House has had the third most passes defended of all GB players, only conceded 2 passes of 20 yards or more last year, and defends 50% of passes thrown his way over his career.
This guy is going to be a starter, and just because he got tripped up once on week 1 of the pre-season is no reason to use him as an argument for the Jags not improving. He's going to be a huge improvement, the stats almost guarantee it.

I will be happy to bet anyone $100 who thinks they are going more than 5-9.

This year?  I'll take that bet.
