QuoteMark Long, a reporter covering the Jags with the Associated Press said that Blackmon had applied of NFL reinstatement, but was denied.

IF its true, hopefully the local media won't take all summer to report it.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

Mark Long is the local media.

I say Brady gets a 4 games suspension.  He returns for game 5 against, yes you guessed it, the Colts.  A win win for the NFL.

Yeap. NFL Marketing at its finest. Win-win.

There's no way in hell, IMHO, that 4-game suspension sticks. Patriot-envy has just made people crazy over a really minor issue. The mob is demanding Brady's head and the commissioner obliged them. Kinda crazy. That piece from Peter King pretty objectively showed his stats are practically identical at home and on the road. Meaning: they got no competitive advantage, folks -- quit screaming. Especially given that most every club does much the same or something essentially similar.

I agree that Peter King's article was fair. But I disagree with you both on this point...advantage or not what was the point of cheating? Just cause he's crappy at it doesn't mean it's alright. And what was the point of not cooperating with the investigation? Just by doing that Brady knew he had opened himself up to some form of punishment...perhaps he knew that taking that punishment was better than what they might find had they searched his phone?

Somehow his suspension will be reduced from 4 to 2 and he will play against the Jags. We're just not that lucky.

Long is an AP reporter, not really a "local" guy like Dan Hicken or Sam Kouvaris or Chad Cushman....Dempsey on 1010xl discussed the issue, but it is really suprising that fewer are not discussing the issue. Not even the Jags are discussing it. Caldwell would rather discuss other issues, rightly so....

You got that right!
I could be wrong about that...it's been known to happen.

Since it's politik season, I can't help but read between the lines of everything these days, and PFT seems to be no different.

Some excerpts:

Quotehttp://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/12/fowler-gets-deal-with-no-offsets-or-training-camp-roster-bonuses/

The Jaguars took care of linebacker Dante Fowler Jr., the third overall pick in the draft who tore an ACL less than an hour into his first NFL minicamp practice. As it turns out, they took very good care of him.

Per a league source, Fowler's fully-guaranteed $23.5 million contract has no offset language.

Fowler also has no training-camp roster bonuses.

"The Jaguars had discussions with me and my business partner Eugene [Parker] before the injury occurred and they never wavered in their commitment to Dante," agent Ben Dogra told Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. "They honored the contract and their promise and gave us a structure that's the same as their franchise quarterback."

That alone just seems to be a feel-good story, but I'm just a fan.  If I'm representing a potential free agent next year, my ears just perked up quite a bit, because there seems to be a team that is willing to go the extra mile without a lot of hassle and most importantly, keeping their word when they could have cut bait and ran.

Now we just need to start being a bit more competitive on the field and I believe we increased our chances of getting the right FAs in next year.
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

It may just be me but the point of not cooperating was . . . this:

It wasn't cheating at all.

If there was a disparity between home and away games, that would be an unfair competitive advantage and tantamount to cheating. Without that disparity, however, it may technically constitute a rule violation but it absolutely is not cheating. I don't understand why that is so hard to comprehend.

As for the non-cooperation, I'll say this:

[1] This is what union members in the NFL do when they feel as though they have been set up -- especially when they feel they have been set up unfairly over an issue that most acknowledge is an entirely dumb rule.

The fact that Peter King's analysis objectively shows the Patriots got no competitive advantage (essentially Brady had the same consistent performance on the road as was achieved at home) demonstrates this is really about subjective before-game comfort and not post-game results.

As a fan, I want my home-team QB subjectively comfortable. Home-field advantage is something almost all fans understand and accept. That's part of the challenge presented to the visiting team: overcome this if you can.

[2] These football players, when any discipline situation arises, are quite reluctant to cooperate with the League.

So . . . to me, this is primarily about an unhealthy envy. The Patriots have been too successful so it has to be blamed on something other than their hard work and talent.

This whole situation is acquiescence to the mob, and IMHO that should not be celebrated.

Maybe I am missing something, but you do know that they provide their own balls whether home or away, yes?  There wouldn't be a difference between home and away.

The big info to me is how the Patriots basically stopped fumbling in 2007 when they were allowed to provide their own balls.  Very curious, indeed.

I'm sure no one was covering it because they couldn't confirm it. Now Mark Long doesn't seem to be standing by his original report any longer. He won't go on the radio to discuss it any further with Dempsey because Long is now saying he never reported it. You can listen to a frustrated Dempsey go over it all at https://soundcloud.com/1010xl-92-5-fm-jax/jaguars-today-clears-the-air-about-justin-blackmon

I have never liked Mark Long and this story confirms it. What a clown.

He may work for the AP but he is based in Jacksonville and is probably at the stadium more than any of the guys you mentioned.
