The Jacksonville Jaguars

I wish I was back home, the Tampa game would be a good road trip. I-10 contact BCB, they may have a better deal and you'll be surrounded by other jag fans. So glad I'm off from work draft night. If Williams is there, I think that's the pick. Cooper would be good also, jags need to score more points.

ESPN Mock Draft last night, first three rounds, Mel Kiper and Todd McShay alternating selections. If you have Insider, here's the link:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2015/insider/story/_/id/12743488/mel-kiper-todd-mcshay-go-head-head-three-round-mock-2015-nfl-draft

Here's how they handled the first few picks in rounds 1 through 3:

Round 1

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Todd McShay's pick: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

The Bucs have to get their franchise quarterback out of this pick, and Winston has been the top overall prospect on my board for quite some time now. His behavioral history is a concern, but he's one of the best QB prospects to enter the league in the last decade.

2. Tennessee Titans
Mel Kiper's pick: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

This wasn't at all a tough decision for me. Zach Mettenberger simply can't match Mariota as a talent, and even if I'm not sold on Mariota, at this slot he's a valuable trade asset that I can listen to offers on. And I'm not at all in the camp that says Mariota can't "fit our system."

3. Jacksonville Jaguars
McShay's pick: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

This is a tough call between Cooper, the best WR in the draft, Dante Fowler Jr., the best edge rusher in the draft, and Leonard Williams, the best overall defensive player in the draft. But Cooper is the No. 3 player on my board and fills a need. Neither Allen Robinson nor Marqise Lee is a true No. 1 receiver, but that's what Cooper has the potential to be.
[RattlerGator: I likes this pick]

Round 2

33. Tennessee Titans
McShay's pick: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M

Ogbuehi is coming off a torn ACL, but once he's healthy he has the talent to start at right tackle opposite Taylor Lewan, giving the Titans a pair of bookends for first-round pick QB Marcus Mariota.

34. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kiper's pick: Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon

I have my QB of the future, now it's time to shore up an obvious need at right tackle. (Yes, Ogbuehi could have been in play, Todd.)

35. Oakland Raiders
McShay's pick: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC

He's a steal here, helping to fill the Raiders' need at wide receiver after they got Leonard Williams with the No. 4 overall pick. He'll be a versatile weapon for second-year QB Derek Carr.

36. Jacksonville Jaguars
Kiper's pick: Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson

Can you say steal? I know I have Beasley higher on my board than Todd, but wow. Cooper plus Beasley. The Jags got better.
[RattlerGator: I like this pick as well]

Round 3

65. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
McShay's pick: Mario Edwards, DE, Florida State

Edwards projects as a defensive end in Tampa's 4-3 defense, and with this pick the Bucs now have addressed their top three needs: QB (Jameis Winston), OL (Jake Fisher) and DE (Edwards).

66. Tennessee Titans
Kiper's pick: Dezmin Lewis, WR, Central Arkansas

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound receiver with a sub-4.5 40 time who gets a little overlooked in a deep draft at the position. Not a bad bet.

67. Jacksonville Jaguars
McShay's pick: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State

In Amari Cooper, Vic Beasley and Williams (who helps bolster a thin group of Jacksonville cornerbacks), the Jaguars have come out of this draft with three really good players. Even Kiper might give them an A.

[RattlerGator: I'll be damned, 3 hard to argue selections that REALLY help the Jaguars]

I'm a big Todd Gurley fan, and would be very pleased if we chose him in the first round -- especially if we trade down and were still able to pick him up along with an additional player gained from the trade.

What do y'all think about these three mock selections ? ? ?

Westside Guy

If the draft were to play out like this, the Jaguars would definitely an A+.  Unfortunately, I highly doubt that Vic Beasley will be there at 36, if the Jags don't take him at 3, they would have to trade up to get him.

My favourite MJD moment was that flip he did vs Houston in 07 when he scored a TD. To bad he didn't stick the Landing.

I tend to agree that this would be a slightly better pick.  IMO, Fowler is awesome, but adding Cooper to Bortles' crop of receivers would be spectacular.  Plus, the Jags like to lead one way and go the other when it comes to their draft history so I see this as a real possibility.
I could be wrong about that...it's been known to happen.

Since 2010, Jags have not had a Pro Bowler selected that was drafted during that stretch. Ouch.

A ranking of the teams, their picks and guess who is 32 out of 32 teams? Not surprising.

^^^Well today is a huge day for Dave Caldwell with this 2015 NFL Draft; So far he has been doing pretty good. I could care less about what happened in the negative past with Gene Smith, especially on a day like today. I can't wait until 8:00 PM!!!

From 2009-2012, the team had one of the worst GM's in the history of the league. Nobody is surprised.

MusicMan

Bryan Anger thinks he was one damn fine GM.

Besides a good half against FSU, Fowler never really jumped out at me watching Florida games.

Not sold that he is the most dominating pass rusher in the draft. He had 12 sacks in the last two years.

If Leonard Williams falls to number 3 (a scenario I don't think is likely as I think Tenn takes him), I'd be ecstatic.

RattlerGator

My goodness, fieldafm, I'm guessing you didn't see much of Dante Fowler if that's the case. To me, he's clearly a dominant football player and -- especially given his extreme versatility -- I'd be quite pleased to get him. Or Leonard Williams. Or Amari Cooper. Or Todd Gurley.

It's going to be hard to mess up the first pick; those other picks are of the greatest interest to me. If they can pull a player or two who, from their time at the Senior Bowl, they've determined are a bit underrated -- we'll be in great shape.

Personally, I think we have to get Blake an elite WR and we have to get him a young, explosive RB. That's when Blake really takes off as a QB.  Our best-case scenario is to trade down and get two later picks in the first round or a later first round and early second round pick. The Jaguars still need quality numbers and this is the draft that can put us over the top.

fieldafm

I'm obviously no pro scout. I watched the Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri and FSU game (although admiddatly I may have had a few adult beverages in my system during the game in Tallahassee). I saw him make a few plays in the Kentucky game (although Kentucky was moving the ball down the field pretty easily, especially in large chunks). He moved the pocket for the first half of the FSU game, no doubt.

I honestly though couldnt have picked him out on the defense against Alabama and Missouri.

I like it RG, you haven't given up hope, but you moved him to the back of the line.  Proud of you!  ;)

Hmmm, you're paying attention I see !!! Good, good, good.

I still love the idea of taking Gurley, and because I'm essentially satisfied with our WR's, he's still the preferred choice for me as long as they have physically checked him out and all is well.

But . . . Amari Cooper? Wow. We desperately need points, and the League has elevated the importance of receivers so . . . it is hard to say Amari shouldn't be our number one priority.
