Not true. Just like when the new Friendship Fountain broke shortly after commissioning, this fountain will certainly be repaired for free under warranty. Of course, when it breaks again in a few years after the warranty has expired, it will just sit broken forever. Maybe if we didn't do everything to the lowest bidder we could have things built right the first time, and they would last the test of time.

The Barge needs city help in changing current policy to become reality.  It also wants the possibility of being able to get public money:

Their company expects to begin booking parties on the barge as early as this November. But under current regulations, the barge can be docked for just 72 hours before it has to leave and would have to wait 30 days before returning.

Emerick said his business model cannot exist under those conditions. Instead, he wants to reach an arrangement with the city that would allow the barge to permanently sit on the river.

Doing so would first require the city to get permission from the state, which owns the river and must approve any structure that permanently floats on it. The company also wants a long-term lease with the city that would grant them access to the site, spell out details like power usage and rental fees and possibly include public funding for the start-up venture.

If your business model doesn't work under those conditions - and probably even under the "revised" conditions - you don't change the conditions you change the model.

Has Emerick ever ran / started a business?  There better be a RFP if the city is going to support this initiative in any way.

Has anyone SEEN this barge?  The thought of a "barge" permanently moored up at Friendship Fountain does not sound like any sort of improvement to our city's waterway. Unless Al knows someone over at "Pimp My Barge", they typically are not the most attractive vessels in the pond...
