The line would just drop down enough to run beneath it.

Which is something the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, COJ and any SAN MARCO BUSINESS ASSOCIATION should be looking at. Send it under and nobody notices. Send it OVER and every CEO and the kids on a road trip to Disney see's it and goes home CONVINCED that Jacksonville is the most cutting edge city on earth... I mean actually the universal public perception of monorails for anybody not in the transit business is that they are the 'trains of the future.' This is an opportunity to complete blow the mind of anybody and everybody coming down the pike and we'll likely rationalize the opportunity away.

Not trying to dig up old threads, but came across this clip on youtube tonight.

My nephew does these kinds of videos up in the midwest. He liked this one, said it turned a "mundane road project" into something interesting. He thought the music selection was different because the beat has a sense of urgency to it, "kind of like music from a Jason Bourne movie" as he put it.

This one was done by Byson Digital for RS&H.

Take a look at the Veteran's Memorial Bridge in Stuart. It has not only a ped/bike ROW, but out sections with park benches on the bridge too so people can sit and watch. Hopefully FDOT can be just as creative.

Given the location, amenities on the Fuller Warren path would help make it a natural urban core/downtown destination for exercise, sightseeing, connectivity, mobility, etc. Tons of pluses. Very few negatives for all parties involved, including FDOT.

It's not an independently designed project. It would be a part of the Fuller Warren Bridge widening project.

Not according to that page 2 actionnewsnews link. They said that "there is no cost yet". It sounds independent to me.

^ Lakelander is correct.  It is independent from the Overland Bridge project currently underway.  It will be part of the I-95/I-10 interchange project.  The reason there "is no cost yet" is because they are still working through preliminary design concepts.  By the time they go to another public meeting next month, they will have cost estimates for each component of the project.

^^^My bad, I got confused with the I-95/I-10 project and the Overland.

I would say a big fat "FACE!" to the FDOT guy who said it was illegal before getting context. LOL. Guess they sent him back to FDOT 201 and retake the class on FHA design codes.

Actually the guy behind that statement has resigned from FDOT to run for the Clay Baker County Commission.  Good that the arrogant jerk is gone.

I also vote for 15-20 foot corinthian columns to line the bridge with stylistic lighting and/or seasonal banners. Give that damn thing a personality.

There aren't anymore columns left in the area, Ock.  They were all used on the courthouse!   ;D

Point well taken, damn thing still looks like an 'explosion in a pillar factory.' In northern Indiana I saw many little bridges, overpasses, creeks etc. with totally decorative signatures on them, be cool if we could do the same.

Isn't it Tampa that has cast bas-relief scenes into their overpasses?
