Riot: A form of civil disorder characterized often by what is thought of as disorganized groups lashing out in a sudden and intense rash of violence against authority, property or people wikipedia.

Melee: ...generally refers to disorganized close combat involving a group of fighters. A melee ensues when groups become locked together in combat with no regard to group tactics or fighting as an organized unit; each participant fights as an individual. wikipedia

When you guys figure out how this was anything near a riot let me know. 'Till then, sounds like too many black kids in one area and so, obviously, a century of terror was about to spread throughout Jacksonville. 5 people were arrested for taking a "fighting stance." It doesn't even read like an actual fight took place, anywhere.

No one was harmed. Nothing was vandalized. How is it that 600 people involved in a riot managed to do so little. That's the real crime, isn't it? The most ineffective rioters, ever.

As a general rule if a car is not on fire it is not a riot.

For a refresher, these are just a few pictures of riots:

And, if only a melee how can this group of fighters be so ineffectual in hurting one another?

These are some pictures that I think must be meant by "melee":

In Miami, they had a shootout in Dadeland Mall in the early 1980s.  It's as ritzy today as it's ever been.  I think RCM will be just fine until a newer competitor opens up.

30+ years is enough time for either or both of these things to happen: 1) the area demographics/reputation changed or 2) memories fade and it became forgotten.

Stereotypes and perceptions are hard to change, I wouldn't take it too lightly that a pattern of incidents could harm the immediate and semi-long term future of this area.

QuoteFYI the RCMP is in Ander Crenshaw's district

You missed the point entirely.

Gateway mall has a Corrinne delivers sign over it, she delivers to her constituents, so work to get a theatre created closer to her base. Gateway mall has a lot of open space now from the supervisor of elections move out. Some of that Public/Private partnership the mayor got elected on. Let's see it work.

^^^ He never said that the RCMP is in Corrine Brown's district. Maybe the Corrine post was pseudo-off topic a tad? Probably. Totally incomprehensible given with the 'theaters in the Northside' correlation? No.

Sadly this is not the only incident at RCMP. The last one was I believe earlier this year when some kid shot a gun inside of Buffalo Wild Wings. This latest was by far the largest though.

Quotehuh?

Either its in Crenshaw's district or it isnt.

What on earth are you going on about vis a vis Corrine?

Never discussed that the theatre was in Corrine's district, only stated that since she delivers, she could help someone, like a Laveranues Coles help develop a Theatre chain in the empty and VACANT space where the Supervisor of Elections just left.

With all the pull between Alvin an Corrine, it should be done soon. Public/Private partnerships are exploding everywhere. Maybe some from the secret Riverside clubhouse group would want to invest their money?

Of course it's the police's fault. I'm sure these same pathetic parent(s) have been defending their little thug angels all through school. Theyre used to being defended because the parent(s) are children too..

oh.  so you know all of the people involved with the incident then?  Why didnt you text them to get out of the area?

So far no one has said why there were 600 people gathered outside. I would bet most of those knew what was going on & could have left any time. No?

i really don't know, peestandingup.  But jaxinatl knows their parents.  Perhaps he can shed some light on it.

Good point. We don't know their parents so it's unfair to criticize them. Still, I hope at least some of their mothers whipped their kid's asses after this. I know mine would have.

Where is Jessie Jackson when you need him?   :P

trying to shakedown Cracker Barell?

I think he was hoping to introduce a remedial spelling course at the restaurant.  Apparently there is a need.

There is, thank god I deal in numbers

TheCat's last image looks far to organized to be considered a Melee.

Why are there no comments about the organized group that started the whole thing, but was thwarted by a security guard at the theater?

Remember, an organized group of teenagers tried to rush the entrance to the theater so that they could get in without paying.  What were they thinking?  Were they the ones who had a temper tantrum like toddlers and cause the "whatever" in the parking lot because their bit of fun didn't come off as they had planned?

That first bit was not spontaneous.  JSO looking at social media?
