Warned as most of the news reports frame it seems much more accurate than threatened.

exactly....if the detective said that, it was just a cautionary note so that the victim knew what she had in front of her

In a shocking turn of events, can anyone guess where the alleged victims lawyer (aunt) went to law school?

might be a bit of a stretch to make that connection....but time will tell

I love Florida State as much as anyone out there, and this has been the most fun I've had watching FSU football in a decade, but until we get a little more information about what exactly happened, and why it was handled the way that it was, I can't in good conscious automatically dismiss this girl as a lawsuit-chaser or liar. My kneejerk reaction was that it was just a conveniently timed smear campaign. Why else would police not even bother to question Jameis Winston, and why would the story not surface until the tail end of one of the great freshman QB seasons of all time. And why would the alleged victim suddenly stop cooperating with the police?

The latest information, however, seems to suggest the possibility that the Tallahassee Police Department may have purposely omitted Winston from the police report, deliberately sat on the case rather than bringing it to the attention of the DA, and tipped Winston's attorney off to get a defense ready. It turns out that the reason we are just now hearing about it is because it took hard-hitting journalists like the folks at TMZ to dig into the story and start hounding the TPD. Further, evidence also suggests the possibility that the only reason the girl stopped participating with the TPD was because she was was warned by TPD over what would happen if she went public. Regardless of whether "threatened" is too strong a word, when the police allegedly tell you that "Tallahassee is a big football town and you will be raked over the coals and your life will be made miserable if you pursue charges" that is bullshit, and heads need to roll for it if true. "We will protect you, and whoever did this to you is going to pay dearly" sure sounds better to me.

Don't get me wrong, Winston could easily be innocent of any wrong doing (and should be assumed as such, for now), I just think that based on the limited information available, it's irresponsible and dangerous to automatically write this girl off as a liar.

I also think that the TPD's alleged behavior, if true, makes Winston appear guilty, even if he did nothing wrong that night.

TMZ and hard hitting journalism are two things that do not go together, TMZ is akin to the National Enquirer.

If she was warned as is being alleged, it could very well have been that the police knew that they did not have enough evidence to make any charge stick outside of her word and the evidence may have not even supported her allegations.

Stretch how?

well Winston's attorney has both a bachelors degree and law degree from UF...and he's a Gator Booster...does that mean he wouldn't represent Jameis fairly?

He has a good relationship with FSU and has been vetted to represent Jameis...this lady on the other hand has questionable motives. I've texted or emailed a few lawyer friends today and everyone of them believes her statements are posturing for a civil suit against the TPD. TPD came out tonight and said the victim willingly dropped the case in February and cut off contact, said there were false statements in the letter from her lawyer today, and that they look forward to being able to tell the truth about the case and what happened. It is also pretty clear she is the one that leaked this to the press....11 months after the fact. The initial media request that got the case reopened was from the exact same reporter at the Tampa Bay Times that carried today's story...and the lawyer happens to be based in the Tampa area.

I've got a friend with contacts at the SAO and a former roommate from a prominent FSU booster family. I've heard there are some things that don't add up from her story. Truth is people are hearing a lot of things, so I'm going to hold off making final judgements one way or the other...but at this time, I'm skeptical.

Sure TMZ is all about entertainment angle, but I wouldn't instantly write them off with everything that they report. They was the first to report on Michael Jackson's death; That credibility turned heads in the world of media. Even the so called 'highly credible sources' like NBC CBS etc gets it wrong sometimes.
