In The Clear: The cloud of uncertainty is behind Miami. But the stench of the NCAA's bungled investigation remains.

First of all, as a cocky Canes fan, let me be the first to tell Shapiro and the NCAA to go rot in hell. So the NCAA wants 9 scholarships over 3 years?  HAHAHA, sure. Only if they help us finish off the champagne bottles and take a few extra strippers home with them after tonight's celebration.

Oh yeah....to FSU and Mr. Jameis, Florida already got their's. Snow white has two weeks to enjoy that rabbit's foot before a Cat 5. hurricane takes out Doak.

With the trash talk out of way, here's an interesting read in the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel from a former Canes player who apparently was Shapiro's right hand man. Only 9 scholarships after self bans from two sucky bowl games?  HAHAHA! Let the recruiting begin.

QuoteEx-'Cane Randy Phillips details relationship with Nevin Shapiro

Randy Phillips knew he was far from home the moment he headed toward the bathroom at a South Beach nightclub a few years ago.

Before he could make his way, he was stopped by the friend who accompanied him at the club. The friend asked if Phillips wanted an escort from his gun-carrying bodyguard.

It was then he knew how lavish life was going to be hanging with this new friend, former University of Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, now in prison for his role in a Ponzi scheme.

"I felt like I was on top of the world," Phillips said. "Man, I come from Belle Glade, Florida. We don't have a Wal-Mart. We don't have a movie theater. So imagine this."

QuoteShapiro threw around large sums of money to attract players. Phillips recalled a time they were at the Lucky Strike bowling alley/nightclub on South Beach when Shapiro used cash to help him gain the attention of a cocktail waitress.

"He said, 'Randy, you like that waitress? I'm going to give her 100 dollars each time she walks by,"' Phillips said. "She walked by at least 50 times."

QuotePhillips confirmed Shapiro offered payouts for plays on the field, but only for big games, such as Florida or Florida State. Big hits and interception returns for touchdowns were worth $500. When they played the Gators in 2008, a $5,000 price tag was placed on knocking Tim Tebow out of the game.

A player could easily add a thousand bucks to the totals just by making a pistol-shooting gesture with his hands after making a big play.

QuoteYears later, Phillips, who is out of football after a shoulder injury ended his NFL career, says he has no regrets except for the fact it affected the program afterward.

In fact, he wishes he had taken more. Without their relationship, Phillips would have never experienced dinners at Prime 112, $8,000 bar tabs, wine from "the 1940 and '50s," and the days of sitting beside Shapiro on the couch as he made $50,000 bets on the Hurricanes, according to Phillips.

Seriously, Ennis? I opened this thread with the intent of teaching some forum noob a lesson. I expected more from you

Anything that will put a dent into the Gators recruiting, I'm all for.

Clemson game on Saturday Night more than made up for the last two Jags seasons for me.

Cannot WAIT to head into Tally to personally witness the ass-stomping that will be the Miami game :D

Speaking of Clemson, Dabo believes the FSU result was an aberration of reality.

QuoteDabo Swinney: 51-14 not barometer

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says his ninth-ranked Tigers are more even with No. 3 Florida State than the lopsided score in Saturday's meeting indicates.

Swinney said Tuesday after watching film of the 51-14 trouncing, he believes if the teams played 10 times, "We'd probably win five, they'd probably win five."

You better hope you get that experience. Canes are young, fast and they can now recruit again without the NCAA cloud hanging over their heads. Time to build some depth.

Here's an appropriate song for Clemson Tigers right now.

Miami would know a lot about "snow" right?

LOL Ennis. You are one of my favorite people even though I barely know you, I love it!

That said, I don't think it's gonna work out the way you're hoping. In fact, I highly doubt it.

and this is coming from the place known as "Free Shoes University" who also recruits out of South Florida? They say if you live in a glass house, don't throw stones! Btw, we're still waiting on Peter Warrick to repay Dillards!

They said the same thing about Monica Lewinsky until she learned that trick with the cigar and then we had a national scandal on our hands.  FSU and Clemson have something in common. They're both known for wetting the bed and coming up limp when it's time to rise for the occasion. UM makes babies. Those other two lay eggs. Start clucking Tally. Daddy is coming to town to beat you down, drink your beer and take your women.

As for Florida, are they still fielding a team these days?  Gator shoes are pretty popular in Coral Gables right now considering the swamp dried up a few weeks ago.

This is definitely the best Miami team in almost 10 years. Glad to see them getting back to being one of the elite programs in the country. College football is better when Miami is good.

Now having said all that. No chance in hell they beat FSU next week.
