Another Walmart for the Westside?

Over the last decade, more than $200 million has been spent to upgrade Collins Road to relieve congestion on Blanding and Argyle Forest Boulevards. Soon, it will even have its own interchange with Interstate 295.  However, that interchange won't be alone.  It appears that Fort Lauderdale-based http://gatlindevelopmentcompany.propertycapsule.com/properties/collins/#overview">Gatlin Development will be bringing a new Walmart Supercenter along with it. Here is a look at Gatlin's proposed plans.

I can't wait until 200 million is spent on a new Morse Avenue interchange to relieve traffic from Collins Road.

I've heard several times that Costco will build #2 in that area as well...

I believe the closest Wal-Mart from there is across the Buckman Bridge on San Jose.

I beleive Collins Road is only 4 lanes from Blanding to Rampart.  The rest is two lanes. What a terrible traffic nightmare I see for that neighborhood. Everyone will try to shortcut Bandingl. Add to that a monster Walmart, yikes.
Where is there room for a Costco?

No way. There is one likes two exits down at 103rd. Also a Super Center.

Costco would be awesome. We so badly need another one.

My bad, I was WAY off. I started to say 103rd. I looked at google maps like, when was I thinking San Jose is like double the distance LOL. It will be interesting to see if the Collins Road locale will stay open 24 hours like on San Jose, or will it have the new shortened hours like 103rd.

Slightly off topic, Is anyone going to try any of the Walmart neighborhood stores? I think they open this week. The only one I know of is in Flemming Island. I think there is another in Mandarin somewhere. I have never been to one. Supposedly this is them trying to eat into the Publix market share. I am not sure if that will work or not.

That would be surprising.

QuoteThe new stores will be at:
10550 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville
8011 Merrill Road, Jacksonville
2570 County Road 220, Middleburg
445 State Road 13, Fruit Cove

I would've loved one instead of the crappy Save-A-Lot that replaced the Food Lion by my house, or hell even a Rowe's IGA.
I support meaningless jingoistic cliches

There's also another one down on Blanding near College Drive.  Guess you can never have too many WalMarts.

I've heard the Costco rumor also, but never anything substantiating it. Anyone know if this is the case and if so do they have anything backing the claim up?

I live in the area, and we usually go to the Walmart on Brannanfield. It is farther as the crow flies but rural road most of the way so it is faster getting there. Plus it is a much newer and cleaner store.
