The Jacksonville Jaguars

Luck is certainly the #1 factor in the Colts' turnaround (a couple of other rookies and young vets like T.Y. Hilton have too, to a lesser extent).  But pure luck is another factor.  The Colts have beaten a number of not very good teams by close margins.  Their season reminds me very much of the Patriots in 1994 - a flawed team that made a playoff run because of a good second season from Drew Bledsoe and a tremendous amount of fortunate bounces in their direction in close games against a soft schedule.  The next year, the inevitable regression to the mean hit them and they finished 6-10.  Or you can look at the quantum leap the Colts made from 1998-99 with Manning followed by the "PLAYOFFS???" fallback in 2000.  I'm not a big fan of the Football Outsiders website for advanced statistical metrics, largely because its writers deny their obvious biases in favor of certain teams and tend to make inane and uninformed Jacksonville fan base jokes, but their metrics (which factor in play-by-play performance and quality of opponents) have the Colts as one of the weaker-performing teams in the league, not too far ahead of the Jaguars.

lol DuvalDude the Colts bounced back on the strength of Andrew Luck. That just goes on to show how this is a QB driven league. Not to mention they weren't a huge disaster like our team is. They still had a decent line on both sides. We have issues everywhere other than you can say starting RB, 2 decent WR's, though we could use another and our punter and kicker are good.

When a team gets blown out historically bad (62-7), you have a bad team. The Colts were horrible last year. 2-14 is 2-14 regardless of how you slice or slant it. There is no " my 2-14 team is better than yours". When you post a 2-14 record you have issues, period.  And to ur point, the Colts had no QB, no RB, and one veteran receiver. If they had a decent line on both sides, they would have won more games. I mean they did get beat by a terrible Jaguar team TWICE. But I know, as Jaguars we will always say that our 2-14 is the worse 2-14 team ever to grace the field  ::)

Dude you picked one game out of 16 as a comparison(62-7). Colts have turned the seasons around while Jaguars are just really bad. That's the only way you slice it. Your comment was really ridiculous!!!

It seems like you inability to comprehend is whats ridicoulos. If you read what I posted, my point is no such thing as a good 2-14 team. When you win two games in a season you suck!!! I dont care what team you are, and what the circumstances are, you suck!! Period!! There no exceptions to the rule. The Colts sucked last season!!! And further more, I can say what the hell I want. Im grown and its a free country. IF you dont like my comment, crawl back under the rock youve been under the eintire season.!!

My point about the Colts is that that team was built around Peyton Manning. It never was meant to be a running team. It didn't matter then or now about WHO they were gonna throw back there at running back. They'd actually probably rather have a pass catching running back compared to a tough nose running back.  Last year they had Garcon and Wayne and a still not over the hill Dallas Clark BUT what was missing was a QB to make their scheme work. We lack a QB, our line is horrible outside of maybe Monroe. On defense we thought Mincey and Pot Roast would be good this year... nope. Babin MIGHT be the best player on that defensive line. Poz is decent but he'll get beat in the middle of the field passing game all day. Outside of Cox, we have no starter level CB's. And Landry is the only decent safety we have. So yeah, I would venture to say we have more holes on our team this year than the Colts had on their team last year. I don't care if we finished 5-11, we'd still be worse than their team last year and still worse than the expansion Jags that we keep referencing.  And I would say MJD was a big reason we beat the Colts last year. 169 yards and 116 yards rushing. The Colts had dudes QB'ing that's not even in the league anymore.

I realize this is hair-splitting and cold comfort amidst all the problems we have, but I'd argue that both Lowery and Landry are better than average starting safeties.

Yes they are actually. And Poz is more than decent. Given the state of the linebackers, you cant expect him to do all on his own, and he almost has. Poz is definately more than decent also. When Smith and Session were in the line up, Poz was able to do more. He has played his azz off this season. Im not doing to take that away from him.

Back to the issue of tickets for the Pats game, the Jags are offering first come first serve 'orphan' single seat tickets for 20 dollars for season ticket holders according to the email I just received.

And yeah Lowery is a good safety too. As far as Poz, I wasn't downplaying his skills, I'm just saying he's not fast enough to cover TE's in the open field, that's not his strength. I definitely would like Poz to be back next year.

Im just curious to see what happens this off season. This is going to be crazy. Our QB is issue is still up in the air. We may (definately will) have a new GM next season and more than likely a new coaching staff. Our direction may completely change..AGAIN. We may get a GM that does like Gabbert or Henne, they may use our first pick on a QB, then things may get interesting. Atleast we dont have to burn anymore high picks on WR's for the first time in a decade. Maybe get one in the late rounds though. Ive beeen looking at all the top picks for this year and gonna check them out online tonight. This is going to be another head spinning offseason. I just wish we never let it get to this point. But theres only one way up from here I guess.

I wouldn't mind seeing us draft a slot-type receiver (though a recovered Shipley might negate that need) or a "move" tight end/H-back in the middle to later rounds.  Hopefully Robinson will be fully recovered also.  I feel like I'm in Jaguars bizarro world, worrying about the running game and run defense but having no qualms about the receivers.  (Or the safeties, for that matter.  Between when Darius/Grant left and Lowery/Landry arrived, safety was a disaster area for this team, outside of maybe Gerald Sensabaugh.)

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Jags take a QB in second round?

I'd rather them take Nuk in the second round...  Since he's projected one pick after us.  Though I don't see him escaping the first round.
