Matt Ryan is a superior QB to Gabbert and he has some great WRs.  Anyway, tough loss for the Jags today.  AJ Green pretty much had his way with Mathis today.

Can we all step back from the teal koolaid today and just admit, that this is the worst team in the league, and will probably not get any better this year? I know I am a Jags fan because I am so bitterly disappointed in yet another wasted year. It just hurts and stings today. We are getting blown out at home by at least 17 points per game. Our O line looks bush league, even with all our starters retruning. Our defense is terrible and our special teams got made a fool of. Is there any area that shows promise?
I think it is time to say that Gene Smith needs to go. He has had 4 years to give us something and he has given us nothing. We have had more top 10 picks in the last few years than any other team, and we have absolutely no stars or playmakers. I mean, we were playing a team ranked near last in defense and that was minus its 4 starting cornerbacks. We only managed 186 passing yeards against them? WTH! I have been a Blain basher and I still do blame him alot, but I also blame his O line. He simply is not able to step back at all without being sacked or rushed. And this was with everyone back. Gene has utterly failed us in this entire area. When Blain does have a chance to throw, he can never get it in the right spot. It is always too high or too low.
Everyone thinks I just come on here to bash, but in the last few years, there have been no bright spots to praise. What is improving? I mean, have you ever witnessed so inept of a team as this? They are the worst tema in the league and I have serious doubts they will win another game this year. The year is over for us, I am afraid. If we get rid of Gene now, we can start rebuilding from our terrible rebuild of 2009. If this team manages to turn around this year, then I will eat crow, but I have seen no evidence of that. The team looks like it has given up for the season as well. Were is our Andy Dalton to AJ Green threat? So disappointed and sad today.

I feel your frustration. I am sick of getting blown out at home, I want a freaking win!

Well you were right about Tebow, I'm sure you're right about this too. Oh wait.

So, Tacachale, you can honestly say this is a good team on the rise?

Minus the sadness (I just can't let myself get that affected by a game), I agree with 100% of what you said. We just do not, DO NOT, have the talent needed to compete on an elite level.

Look on the bright side.  You can always join my fish's bandwagon.  Sure we have the same record after back-to-back OT loses but at least the games are competitive and the rookie QB has a huge upside.

The good news is that L.A. has halted any deals on a new NFL stadium.

They are afraid they might get the Jags.

Gene Smith has to go. The idea of finding all of these unknown diamond in the rough types is far more miss than hit.

Just look at the Bengals...an organization that the Jags should be on par with. They are loaded with guys who were stars in college or who at least played at big schools. Virtually every starter played at an upper tier BCS school. I've heard of pretty much every starter on their team. Heck, they have some college studs riding their bench.

Offense:
AJ Green-UGA
Jermaine Gresham-Oklahoma
Green Ellis-Ole Miss
Dalton-TCU
Andre Smith-Bama
Faine-ND
Zeitler-Wisconsin
Boling-UGA
Whitworth-LSU
Charles-UGA

Defense:
Taylor Mays-USC
Dunlap-UF
Peko-Michigan State
Atkins-UGA
Johnson-GT
Lawson-NC State
Burfict-ASU
Maulaluga-Notre Dame
Hall-Michigan
Clements-Ohio State

That is how you build a roster^

Did I say that? I certainly don't recall it. What I'm saying is that given the fact that previously much of your Jags criticism was tied back to your general whinging negativity and your Tebow boosterism (about which you've been tellingly quiet lately), your analyses are to be taken with a grain of salt.

It's possible to come to the correct conclusion despite wrong reasoning, especially when the conclusion is as glaringly obvious as the fact that this team is in trouble. However, I simply don't agree that Gene Smith is the source of all our woes, nor am I ready to give up on Gabbert. Perhaps I'm just still sore about the time we fired that one guy for not meeting expectations and then he won 2 Super Bowls.

What I will say is this: I wasn't expecting the playoffs, but I was expecting improvement, and after four years Smith's legacy relies on how much the team, and especially the man at QB, improves.

I took a mental break after yesterday's game. Its going to be the long season. Seems as if our dark ages are here. Every team has had them, and it is upon us. May god be with us  :D

Uhhhhhhhhh. Hardly any of those guys on the Saints were stars in college.  Gresham, Green, Mays, Andre Smith, Green Ellis, Faine, Maulaluga, Burfict, Johnson, Lawson, Dunlap, and Clements were stars in college. Many of them bigtime college stars.

Sure some guys who are stars in college (Nelson) are busts in the NFL, but by and large you are more likely to hit on a college star from USC over a sleeper from Hofstra.

I will be the first to say, MAN this is the first time since the creation of the AFC south that it has looked THIS bad. This division is just tragic this year. Outside of the Texans, everybody is on an up and down rollcoaster of winning this week and getting blown out next week. I cant believe what weve become.  ;D

Anyways, I couple of Tidbits about the GM. When I was watching the texans game last week, they were dicussing how the Texans built their team.... It took them exactly 7 years. After their last losing season the fans were calling for everyones head to roll, but the owner refused to change GM's or the head coach. They stated that exact approach is how they have built a monster of a team. We have to remember a few things about our roster:

Shack Harris and Del Rio screwed this team in 2008 and set us back. They didnt screw up a little bit, they screwed up alot. Our problems stem way past Gene Smith. We are experiencing the 9 years of incompeitent drafting and the unnecessary release of some of our best players by the Del Rio camp. I for one cant blame it all on Gene. He just in heritated huge mess. Do I feel Gene is perfect? no.I dont believe we have bad players. I believe we have too many holes in our roster on both sides of the ball. How long this will take, who knows. Took the Tecans 7 years, and it took some teams decades to get it right. Only time will tell. The one positive thing I can say is gabbert is not the issue. When he has time, sunshine is productive. When the O-line cant hold water, thats when he tends to rush passes or do check downs. Our oline is the pits. Not to mention the receiver cant get seperation most of the time or drops the ball.

All in all, I still love my team. Its part of being a football fan. There will ups and extreme downs. Every team in this league has went through. Were no exceptions to the rules. I will not sit here and drown my self in though. At the end of the day, its just a game.

So who do you think is the better team, Saints or Bengals?  In the words of a writer with wispy, grey hair, "You find football players where you find football players."

Am I happy/content/accepting at 1-3?  Hell no.  But I don't think blowing up the front office would help anything.  Please name for me 1 team other than the Jags that (in the past 8 years) have had more 1st and 2nd round picks that are not even in the NFL anymore?  Those are the guys nearing the end of their second contracts that are supposed to be the leaders on the team - the solid vets.  We don't have those.

This isn't an apology for Gene, it's just that I don't really think anyone fully understands how depleted the team actually was when he took over.   When 4 of your 7 top picks aren't even playing the game anymore, you have a serious problem - that wasn't on Gene.  It's time for his 1st draft class to resign and there are still several players that are quality players that will be going into their second contract with the team, and I know no one wants to hear it, but 4 years from now when Monroe is still locking down the left side, Cox is in the secondary, Jennings is still carrying half the load at 5.5 yds/att, those are players we don't have to replace right away - you can truly have 'jars on the shelf'.

I'll say this, Gene may get fired and it will be from fan dissention, and the next guy that comes in will look like a superstar - because he will have plenty of viable talent already on the team - something to build from, and not having to start from scratch.

It's like Gruden winning the SB with Dungy's players in Tampa.
