Quotehe rundown apartments known as The Pits are gone.

In their place, a nonprofit group plans to build apartments for senior citizens on land bordering the campus of Stanton College Preparatory School.

Construction should start in 2013 of 70 apartment units, the Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corp. announced Monday.

That's great news. That said, I'm not sure I'd want to live there. I don't know how much the area's changed since 1990 (I'm assuming it's changed at least a bit), but it wasn't one of the better places to live back then.

Those apartments were terrible, though. I hope the residents were re-housed somewhere.

wow...very nice....some of us have been pushing for projects just like this along in the New Town neighborhood...maybe this will be a catalyst fior investment in the whole area.

You can't say Northwest Jax CDC thinks small. After their commercial project and now this, they have made some bold moves by Jacksonville standards.

Does anyone know how North Point Town Center is doing?

I do think they could benefit from clustering several of their key initial projects within a pretty compact setting and along a visible corridor.  However, it's hard to seriously complain about the projects they've been coming up recently.  It would be nice to see some of the other CDCs develop similar infill projects.
