Dog Walker

Revolvers don't, but semi-automatic pistols and rifles do.

The pretty gorgeous lady sergeant for downtown who sits on the Hemming Park committee is on the scene.  An eyewitness to the drive by is reporting a lot of gun shells on the road.

Pardon my gun ignorance, but do all guns leave shells behind?

I believe so, but I may be equally ignorant.

At least one person was shot in the leg, and the cops are in helicopters swooping around.

Obviously the shooters are still on the loose.

No deaths I assume.

No.  Basically, anything with a clip will eject wasted shells.  Bolt-Action, Breach-Action & Revolvers are self contained.

no one is telling.  but apparently the shooters went for everybody's legs.

That's unsporting.

Sounds more like piss-poor aim.

Its amazing how non communicative cops get when there are unidentified people with guns at large, apparently nearby.

I just wanted to make that observation.

For what it's worth, this seems to be the rule, not the exception. I know a handful of good cops, as I'm sure most of us do, but "communicative" and "cops" and "situation"....well, never seen/heard that happen.

No.  I think that if there are multiple legs being shot out from underneath more than one person, that we are dealing with a marksman of some sort.

A really bad one.

To be completely sterotypical, pretend you're holding a pistol, turn your hand 90 deg (thug style) and tell me which way your wrist bends.  If you're shooting normally, the tendency is to miss high due to the recoil.  If you're shooting like a stereotypical drive by thug, you're going to miss low for the same reasons.  We were very gansta growing up in the woods.   ;)

This is just on the wrong side of the tracks. Across the street from where the historic district boundaries begin. The Clark street murder a couple weeks ago is the same thing. The Walnut street hit job victim last weekend lived just outside the boundaries too. It amazes me how its like 2 different worlds but so close. San marco and Riverside have the same thing with bad area butting up next to "good" areas but it seems more distinct in Springfield. Crazy but true.

and their comment section, as if on cue.......is already off to the races.

Or in this case, racists.

Quotehmm. NRW.  I would think that legs were a trickier target.

They tend to be thinner and move around a great deal more.

Stephen, in a drive by situation, it's pretty impossible to hit what your aiming for unless you have had some training.  Hand guns in general are hard to use in general. If you add in a moving car, moving targets, and the distance that was probably between the shooter and the victims, the odds that he was aiming for the legs and hit them is slim to none.  NRW's comments are also true. Odds are, he intended to hit something far more vital, but he missed and hit the legs.  Thank goodness.

good lord, the detectives on the scene don't think it was a 'drive by' because the lane is a dead end.

The cartridges and bullets are apparently from multiple weapons, so we guessed that one correctly.

Sometimes I wonder whether or not its an obstacle to be so literal minded that you think a 'drive by' can only happen if you have to drive straight in order to escape.

Perhaps... but you'd have to be pretty stupid to do a drive by on a dead-end street. Usually the people getting shot at are armed (or thought to be) and you don't want to have to drive back by them to get away. I'll give the JSO a bit of credit - I assume they know a thing or two about what they're doing, as they have lots of experience in the area :)

Edit: good call on the racist thing, though. What's up with the TU website? I notice that every time I read a story on there. If you didn't know better, you'd think Jax was full of nothing but racist pricks.

Is this gang-related?

Sounds like this is connected to the murders recently on Clark and Walnut.
