Time to start calling Jax Denver Sud? Maybe not quite yet, but its impressive how many breweries have opened in recent years.

Now we need to get a downtown brewery. Maybe all the new breweries can race to see who can open a marquee downtown location...

Let the race begin! Would love if in the next 10-20 years Jax was the Portland of the Southeast.

This is the long awaited Aardwolf Brewery. The building is the old South Jacksonville Utilities building across the street from the SMPS and the San Marco Station project, though the lease isn't finalized yet and there's still some zoning issues. However, all signs evidently look good right now.

Michael is the best brewer in town, and we've got a lot of good ones. He has all the resources and experience to make this take right off. I'm partial, but I fully believe Aardwolf could be the next Cigar City.

They intend to be more heavy on distribution outside the city and will be doing more bottling than a lot of breweries in the state. However, there will be a tap room as there is at Bold City, Intuition, and Green Room. Fingers crossed, but assuming things go as planned, this will be a fantastic new business for Jacksonville and a terrific addition to the Florida beer scene.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

I had heard last week that he had found this spot and was in the midst of getting the lease together. It is an awesome location with a lot of potential.

There are also a couple of others out there still feeling around that may be announced in the next few months.

On top of all the great new beer-centric restaurants, pubs, and bars coming to town, we may indeed see a northeast Florida brewing Mecca here in Jacksonville.

If River City Brewing Company would do something to improve its product and visibility as a brewery, they could have a truly exciting place. The location is a dream -- parking, scenic views, large deck, boat access... I could go on. But, the beer just is not of the quality it needs to be nor is the brewhouse adequate.

If they would update the brewhouse to a 7 barrel system, add some additional fermentation tanks, a brite tank, and some know-how, they could really be something.

Their beer is absolutely terrible. Borderline an embarrassment. Oh, and their food sucks too. No idea how this place is still in business, even with the fantastic location.

Awesome news. I'm glad Bold City, Intuition and Green Room have been as popular as they are and continue to grow, I think it shows other possible brewers that their is a big demand for some good local brew here in Jax.

Does the building have rights to the parking area behind it off of Hendricks??  I know that people park there for shows at Jackrabbit's, but that parking would be essential for strong taproom business.  This will go well with the 2nd restaurant planned for the Hendricks avenue station property.  I never got a chance to sample Michael's work at Brewer's Pizza, but Terrapin makes some great beer and if he had a hand in that I look forward to big things.

As for RCBC, they are trying to be all things to all people.  That never turns out well.  They may want to focus on 1 or 2 of their current business segments (group events, fine dining, beer production, live music, etc...)and work on making them better.  They do have more potential than just about anywhere in town, they just haven't yet capitalized on it.

Exactly, Cap'n! When I was interviewing them for a magazine article last year, they said that they were going to put more emphasis on brewing. I have yet to see it. I have heard, however, that current ownership is not particularly worried about it and that they are just sort of coasting.

I wish they would get a fire under their feet. That place could be something truly special.

How about one in Confederate Park, use the water from Hogan Creek. Lots of empty space created from all the Ash sites. Why not?

That area will be congested to high heaven, about the only place to park will be at the tennis courts on the north side, next to the Masonry hall and walk across the busy Hendricks Avenue. Or better yet, shuttle people from the King Street deck. It sits mostly empty, especially at night and is only a few blocks away.

RCBC no dogs allowed, since they serve food, so I'll stick with Intuition, where dogs are allowed inside or out, since they do not serve food.

No, we're not Portland, we're not Denver! This is Florida, so let's be Florida. Originality, people! It's gets you places.
