How did he overachieve at every level?

In high school, he was physically superior to almost every player on each team they played.

Sounds like overachievment in the gene pool.....

Yep.

An yes, I am a Tebow fan. He has overachieved at every level of football. I am unsure why he is either so greatly liked or greatly hated. He has a tough ending for the season. Lets see how he does.

The whole air of the draft-Tebow campaign was embarrassing to Jacksonville in the national press - it fueled all kinds of talk about how Jacksonville was really a college sports town, not a pro sports town, and that these casual fans would control the Jaguars' decisions.  It all made Jacksonville look amateurish and silly.  Then when he wasn't drafted they all started firing off columns about how now the Jaguars would surely leave town, or how the stands would be full of orange for our opener against Denver last year.

I agree Wacca. I am still embarassed about how the people in this city reacted about us not drafting Tebow. but as you mentioned, I dont think they were really fans of the Jags to begin with. Its quite embarassing that some residents would rather see the city fail and support a team that is not even located in the city, and also does not do anything for the city nationally (or financially outside of two games a year). It actually showed how "small town" minded some residents of this great city are.

Another well written post from Wacca; He summed up a true Jags fan's perspective on Tebow perfectly. Sorry to go off course a lil'; Another thing that makes J-ville look like a Gator-laden Waldo-like backwater whistlestop is JTA's biased "Go Gators" on the bus destination signs during the FL vs GA game; We supposed to be a damn neutral site! WTF in their minds makes them think that's acceptable? What's wrong with "Welcome to all Gator & Bulldog Fans"? I really hope that someday we lose that stupid overrated yahoo college game because of the Gator bias.

Thanks kindly, I-10 East.  I hope I was able to atone for having been kind of off the handle, particularly toward Dapper Dan, this morning.

Very frustrating indeed.  Of course they're not the majority but they're noisy enough to add to a public image problem for us in the national sports press.  It confuses me to no end when someone from Jacksonville says something along the lines of "forget the Jaguars, the Gators are the true pride of Jacksonville."  I often wonder whether I should go around Newport News saying the University of Richmond is the true pride of Newport News, because it's about as logical geographically.

Listening to his press conference, JDR said he liked the plays called and we simply failed to execute them.  Said he'd call the same plays again.

To be fair, college football ruled Florida long before the pros ever deigned to bless us with their presence. Until 1995 in Jacksonville, the closest pro football we had were the Dolphins (6 hours away) and the Bucs (4 hours away and terrible). The colleges - not just Florida- were a lot closer, often more competitive at their level, and at least two college games were played right here every year. It's not surprising that there's a strong generational loyalty.

Jacksonville still has the largest booster clubs for both Florida and Florida State. We also have the largest Georgia booster club outside of Atlanta, and until not too long ago, had the largest Miami club outside of Miami. Out of all those teams Florida has been the best for the last 10-20 years, so clearly they attract more bandwagon fans right now. This support has taken decades to develop, and I don't think that and Jag-love are mutually exclusive. In fact, our proven support of the college game is what made the NFL look at us in the first place. We're smaller than some other markets, but we go clinically apeshit for gridiron.

There are many people who are both Gators (Or Seminoles, or Bulldogs, or USF Bulls, etc) fans and Jaguars fans.
And every year, the number of kids who grew up teal increases. Particularly among young people, you'll find many Jaxons who are Jaguars first, beyond any college loyalty. We are only now at the point where the first crop who grew up entirely in an NFL city are out earning their own entertainment dollars. Of course they're out in a recession that has hit Florida particularly hard, but once we get past this hurdle the support will only get stronger.

I just can't believe them. He was wide open. That would've been a touchdown. I though we were going to win  this one.

The other play that's killing me today is the one on the series that ended with a FG - we had 1st and goal at the 8, the CB covering Hill fell down and left him wide open, and Gabbert rocketed it out of the end zone.

Yeah! I was so mad about that. I think Gabbert just got excited and wanted to get a touchdown quick. That's something he's gonna have to work on. If he had just waited ONE more second, we could've had another touchdown.

I haven't seen any stats so I'm just going off of what I've seen, but I think Jason Hill has been great this year. I think he's better than Mike Thomas. Jason Hill has been the reason for a lot of our yards and first downs. There were mistakes from everybody in that last drive.

I tend to agree with you about Hill being better than Thomas this year; Like you said atleast Hill gets first downs on a regular basis. Although I must say, yesterday that disasterous drop in the endzone was reminisent of Northcutt in the NE game; Bottom line, Hill lost that game moreso than anyone else.

You're right, but I have been impressed with him overall. He has some really bad mistakes, but in almost every game, he has one moment that makes it seem like we might have a chance at winning. I can't remember what game it was, but in one game he caught the ball and gave a 30 or 40 yard advance. Things like that just get me excited about the game and shows that we still have a chance.

I'm satisfied with the outcome of the game because I was impressed with our team, but he has got to stop blaming other people. Why would he let Dirk call the final play? Didn't he approve it? I just don't understand him. The head coach is supposed to have the final say with the plays, so why would he let someone else choose the play for the most crucial down? I want to like Jack and see him keep his job, but stuff like this make me want him gone.

I have noticed that trend as well. There is a new generation of Jags fan that have emereged the past two years in particular. Its pretty much the people in their teens and twenties who were not old enough to even attend Jags. Now they are working adults and can actually come out to games, etc etc. I am rather impressed with the surge of youth that has invaded our fan base. Our long time fans are getting old. I was at one game and I swear every fan I seen was in a wheel chair or was walking with a cane.

Im also going to join the Jags booster club. My friend here at work is part of it and she was saying the majority of the booster club members are pretty old (indlucing her self), and that they need some new blood in there. So shes getting me information about joining.

Duvaldude, I believe you're about the same age as me (30). That is just about the very oldest age of Jaxons who had the Jags here for part of their young life. For a lot of people, that's when these strong team loyalties are formed, and we're just now at the point that the first generation has come into ticket buying age. Every year that goes buy, there are more and more natural born jags fans out there. Regardless of the pratfalls, it's a very exiting time in this club's history.

Yes sir. I will be 30 in three months. LOL I was actually a different case. I was not a Jags fan even as a teenager. I did not like sports at all. I was strickly into music so if I went to a football game it was to see a band perform. However, the incidents that took place in 2009 (Jax doesnt support their, Jags to LA, draft Tebow, etc etc) angered me to the point that I wanted to make a difference. So I did a crash course in Jag football and now, as we all know, I drink teal kool aid all day long. And you are right, this is a very exciting time for this franchise. It is a transition thats taking place that is going to be something special. New QB, new coaching staff (hoping), re-energized fan base. Only good things can come out of that.
