Cool. That area of town is blowing up right now. That is great for the people on the northside.

The Guess Store at the Town Center looks to have closed.

The Hallmark in the Publix shopping center on Kernan and Beach is closing as well.

A Sweet to Eat, a nice little bakeshop that also served lunch on some days, has closed... they were located over near Gate Pkway and 9A.

They blame the economy...

They opened in 2009 and blamed the economy for closing?

Higher food costs coupled with small or negative growth is affecting these types of business.

They operate on small margins I'm sure.  I don't claim to know anything about their choice of location, management, product, quality, credit structure, etc. which has a much bigger effect on their solvency, but it's not unreasonable to cite the economy as it's death knell.

They didn't open in a great economic enviroment. As for location, I don't see much business success for many things on Gate Pkwy, south of JTB.

I'm surprised Marciano and Guess closed.  I suppose L'Occitane, Michael Kors, The Art of Shaving, Oakley, Sweet, and The Olive Oil Shop will be moving into one of these shops?

Now that I think about it...no one I know goes out of their way to wear Guess anymore.

Guess is nothing special to me.  Usually cheap looking menswear.  I dunno about the womens' stuff though.

On a positive note @ SJTC:

Six new stores to open at St. Johns Town Center

QuoteSix new stores are scheduled to open in the St. Johns Town Center in the next couple of months:
L'Occitane, a high-end beauty product retailer, will open in the next two weeks between Pottery Barn and Sunglass Hut. The chain is based in France and has more than 1,500 stores around the world, including 13 in Florida. But this is the first north of Orlando.
The Art of Shaving, which features men's shaving and skin products, will open in early September between Kay Jewelers and Levy Jewelers. The chain has 60 stores open or about to open. This will be the first between Orlando and Atlanta.
Sweet! By Good Golly Miss Holly, a cupcake bakery, will open its second store in early September between Bikes Direct and Supercuts. The original store is in Orlando.
Oakley sunglasses will open next to Fossil at the end of September.
The Olive Oil Store, featuring olive oils, vinegars and related cooking items, will open between Subway and Salon Cielo in early November.
Michael Kors, high-end sportswear and accessories, is slated to open in November next to Chico's.
