Today we must have had close to 75 volunteers from First Baptist helping us clean the alleys. It was a great time. Lots of hard work was accomplished. Just check out all the debris along 8th St waiting to be picked up. Thanks FBC and the Springfield residents for helping out! A tremendous effort by all.

I saw lots of people while I was up at the car wash today...and then City Kidz had free ice cream for the volunteers...great job!

Yearly "think about the neighbors" time i guess...

So you went to the cleanup too? Good Job, GG!

I was there a little after 9 and was impressed with the effort too. There was some heavy duty equipment going in those alleys and cleaning the lots. Didn't know there was a little park south of 8th. How many times was that red pick up truck filled up with limbs and branches.

Impressive! There are a lot of people that want it to happen.

as strongly as i distrust and dislike FBC, this attitude ov putting down and seeking ulterior motives for the good they do has very likely fed into the isolationism and aloofness they usually show.  i don't like them, but i see no reason not to gratefully accept the help they offer on its own terms.
they showed up, which is more than i did.

I always love to see progress and piles of trash waiting on a truck are great signs of progress.. Kudos to all of you :)

Take a drive down 8th St or 7th St between Hubbard and Market St!

I've got about 20 or so pictures. I'll either post them tomorrow or send them for someone else to post.

Politics, Religion, DT issues aside, the volunteers from First Baptist dominated in the Block Captains cleanup. They  did a phenomenal job. Just drive around the Eastside of Springfield in the few blocks around 8th. The alley between 7th and 8th and Market and Hubbard went from jungle to navigable via foot or car. It was quite likely the most overgrown alley in the whole neighborhood.

What a great gift to Springfield. Thank you First Baptist and block captains.

The alleys are so precious to the neighborhood. It really sets Springfield a part from other neighborhoods. And the alleys on the east side were in rough shape.
