Commercial Bldg's don't count unless they are Historic in nature! Homes are what matters to me!
Like I posted sheclown if they are "Historic" each and everyone should be saved if at all possible, but that is just me! They can not make them like that anymore, not cost effective, not are many willing to use those kinds of building techniques nowdays!

sheclown.....I really don't think so but next time I go through your world I will look! Arson is the most likely cause  but I would still have to ask " What happened to the duece"? That is right down the road from station 2 and responce time should have been minimal? When I was in the Coast Guard, we took great pride in launching within 2 minutes of notification............I think I still hold the record for Coast Guard Station Santa Rosa....34 seconds from time of notification! Just happened to be stowing spare gear on 41322 and away we went!

I love the old 41ft UTB's I served on 41457 and 41409. I also served on 44377.  Yep I remember running to the boat 90 miles an hour with our hair on fire

I also had 40337 without the added overhead roof (really created a sail and a half) Had the original 3 paned spray shield and no radar! Went through heavy weather school in Astoria, Oregon on the unsinkables and learned howto on the 41's.............loved those things and would take them anywhere! Just had to watch out for following sea's because of the low transom's........heck I even got to work the 31's! When I went through boot camp learned how to man a sweep....geez those were the days big guy!

Yeah I thought I remember 41322 we borrowed her from P-cola while Destins 41 was in the yards.
40 footer your old guard buddy. Looks like we sailed some of the same waters. glad to meet you brother.

Well I will be darned..............small world brother!! I don't have room for all of the places I got to visit courtesy of Uncle Sam.........ranged from RON1, insertions and extractions  & SAR, Coast Guard Cutter Sebago (WMEC 42) Base Mobile, Coast Guard Cutter Point Verde, Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn, Lormonsta Bermuda, Loranstation Upulu Pt and Station Santa Rosa...........Wheeler AFB, before it became Kadafy International and a stint in Columbia SA! Got to see the world and all it took was a little personnel time!

To see what it was, you can go to http://www.vpike.com/?place=240+w+8th+st+jackosnville+fl

Rotate the field until you are looking south, as this program finds the closest address, which is 235. (If you know the correct address, use that.)

Since this street view was made some time ago, you can see what sort of shape the house was in. It had been like that for several years: No plaster and numerous clapboards removed, so you could see through the whole structure to the other side.

Another shame.

Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn !! What year

CS Foltz

That it was............I was not on board when she went down in Tampa Bay, was on the Axe TAD. Like being ridden on a rail out of town.............interesting once! Glad I did it, but not any more.....time for the next generation to step up. I trained the "Plank Crew" for Sta Destin when I was at Sta Santa Rosa. We had 191776 there, ex-presidential security boat....had twin 350's in it and that sucker would haul butt!! We used it for drug interdiction and rapid responce......USCG does not do things like in the days of old.....oh well, the wheel turns! One of these days we will have to get together at Three Layers on a Tuesday night.....1830 till 2130 or there abouts?

I sailed on 191776 as well They got rid of her 2 months after I reported to Destin Do you know Barry White or Tim Layerd.  BTW my room mate during MLE school was on the Blackthorn when she sank but I cant recall his name

CS Foltz

Very small world big guy................we will get together at some future point! Semper Paratus!

You have to go out but you dont have to come back

Jason, back to the sister house, if you mean the one next door, it burned as well a few years ago. Arson was also suspected in that one.  A neighbor I know was very much afraid for her own home because that one was right next to the alley her house backs up to.

That's the one I meant, I forgot it was fire.  Thanks for the correction.

If I remember right, there are now only two (or is it three?) historic houses left facing 8th street from Main to Shands.  A duplex, the big one with the unigue double round porches and I think maybe one that has a store front built on the front.  Did I miss any? There may only be one or two left from Main to the East as well.

One thing I personally believe helps make a historic commercial corridor cool is the older houses used for retail and such.  We are losing them rapidly.  On main years ago and now more recently 8th and even the side streets off of Main that are still zoned commercial.
