Another house lost to fire in Springfield

Miss Fixit

We were at the corner of Main and 8th at about 6:20 when we first saw the smoke.  At the same time, the first of several fire department vehicles turned onto 8th from Main.  I don't recall which stations they were from, but they were at the scene within minutes.  We walked down 8th towards the fire and did notice one thing we thought was odd - it took a long time before hoses were hooked up to the hydrant and the hydrant was turned on.

They probably just let it burn figuring that it was empty and not worth the risk of an aggressive attack - or beyond salvaging.

I was just curious because they are usually super quick and if there's a half-decent fire in town you can bet that everyone is racing each other to get a piece of it.

I asked because I was wondering if maybe it was one of those occurrences where the closest engine (the deuce) was on another call and backup hadn't arrived yet.

Anyway, great pic.   Like I said, rare to see a house fire like that without a single engine on scene.

The photo is amazing, the only thing missing was feeling the heat. As for the Deuce, I was just coming out of Uptown when I too saw that huge plume of black smoke and just then the Deuce came screaming by, coming from further down Main....so it wasn't in it's station when it got the call.

News tonight said it was purposely set. Very scary to see it go so fast.

Wow
It looks like there not even much that could be salvaged
what a shame

Is there a single house standing on the south side of 8th Street from Main to SHANDS?

sheclown.....I really don't think so but next time I go through your world I will look! Arson is the most likely cause  but I would still have to ask " What happened to the duece"? That is right down the road from station 2 and responce time should have been minimal? When I was in the Coast Guard, we took great pride in launching within 2 minutes of notification............I think I still hold the record for Coast Guard Station Santa Rosa....34 seconds from time of notification! Just happened to be stowing spare gear on 41322 and away we went!

Okay Jason.........thats one, anymore?

Don't think so.  Since I've been here the only other house on the south side of 8th that I can remember being demolished was unfortunately the sister house to this one that just burned.  Commercial buildings is a different subject...

Commercial Bldg's don't count unless they are Historic in nature! Homes are what matters to me!

Cool.

Commercial buildings do count.  We had some fine brick buildings that lost their lives to wrecking balls. Some of these old buildings still have their tin ceilings.
