Can we do something about front page/feed dominance?

I know I'm probably opening a can of worms here, but frankly, as someone who really couldn't care less about a 1 square mile area of an 885 sq mile city, can we please do something about the basic dominance of Springfield issues around here? As in, is it at all possible the Springfield forum can go the way of the National Politics forum (off the forum RSS feed, off the front page unless registered)?

Serious...I can't be the only one who's just sick of all the inside baseball and petty BS infighting dealing with the area that tends to bury other legitimate issues of discussion around here, can I?

perhaps Springfield should just have one thread -- since it all gets tangled up anyway.

The Golden Mile Thread.

Really, Clem, we are a pathetic lot right now --  we'll get it together and become less self-absorbed...eventually.

The only place I see a lot of Springfield mentioned is the little box in the middle that shows the latest posts.  It's easy to avoid that little piece. Just click on Forum and read the part of the Forum that interests you.

Clem1029, I feel you pain.  Its something I'll continue to bring up at our board meetings because it does limit the exposure to more important issues our city faces.  Personally, I'd like to see the feed only reflect the latest post from each discussion board section and the majority of the Springfield discussion shift to www.myspringfield.org.  However, I don't know if that's possible or not.  Nevertheless, we'll figure something out.  Just give us a week or two to discuss and set a path to best deal with the situation.

I think, eventually, the Springfield forum will calm down.  It is just in such a dynamic place right now (the neighborhood, that is).  People, all sides and in the middle, just don't know WHAT to do.  Good people are acting badly, "bad" people are acting good, it is all a mess.  Most importantly, the neighborhood is begging for leadership.  HELP US, we are all screaming in our own way.

And in the end, their will be new leadership in Springfield.  Someone from within will take the reigns and make this a place of relative peace.

If you look, most of the discussions taking place here have been in the springfield threads...but of course, it should be easy enough for members to stop talking here and move elsewhere.

Just do like Urbanspoon does and write some code that takes a random sampling of the latest posts from all the different forums, not just the most recent post out of all the forums combined. Problem solved.

And beyond that, if people aren't interested in Springfield issues, they certainly have no gun to their head, no law says they have to come into the Springfield forum. There are lots of other forums on this site. Maybe it's just me, and not trying to be rude, but I really don't see what the big deal is. If you don't want to read the Springfield forum, don't read the Springfield forum.

While I believe the threads on MetroJacksonville need to be left alone to evolve as they may, (within in reason, with moderator input)  I do understand the frustration someone who is not interested in Springfield may feel when they do that quick check on the front page and 80% of the new posts are Springfield.  It sounds like the idea is not to force anyone to move their posting but rather change how the new posts alerts are put up.

The idea that only the most recent post in any one section (rather than a thread) being put up on the front page so that no one section dominates is certainly the best option.  In addition, it would be very cool to have a revolving and possibly random posting of older threads as I often find things that interest me when someone else finds and posts on an older thread and it pops up on the front page.

the display of most recent post is normal method in pretty all ranking engines. For example, google news. For select an other criteria does require more scripting and the logic (for script) is not easy to develop.
FWIW, the places lack of stories should be happy about it. Because some Old Russian once said, "happy families are all the same..." thus boring and post-less.
