Macy's = Dillard's & Belk.  There's really not that much difference.  I couldn't see all three anchoring the Avenues - I thought Parisian worked for a while, because they seemed to be up a tier.  Even if Macy's were to come to SJTC,  once the newness wore off, how unlike the Dillard's would they be?  Could they coexist?  I really think that we'll see something along the lines of Nordstrom/Lord & Taylor/Saks break into JAX (@ SJTC) before Macy's.  I would roll the dice & put a Macy's downtown & sit back & watch the supporting development....

Why would those stores go where a Macys is not?

I am amused by Macy's 'let them eat cake' response to queries about Jacksonville.  The Macy's party line is, "Jacksonville yokels should visit macys.com if they want to enjoy the Macy's experience."  I don't know about you all, but I do not know a single shopping junkie who would buy a new outfit online.  That takes the fun out of trying on nine different outfits that you are not going to buy, narrowing down the choices to one eventual purchase, and having your significant other hold your purse.
Sure, Macy's is on par with Kmart and Woolco these days, but it would have been a symbolic victory for the legendary retailer to set up shop in our city.

^^...Yes, Macy's told us that we could shop online for the Macy's experience, or go to Gainesville, Ocala, Daytona Beach, blah, blah...

yes...and Tallahassee too...they all used to be Burdines (which means they're not the high-end Macy's some folks want here)...for some reason, Jax. never had a Burdines store.

We had the local Ivey's chain - same market?

Like I said, Macy's can just suck it. I never been to one, and never really needed one. I will send them an email saying that too.

Looking at some of their corporate material suggests they plan to add several stores in 2010 and 2011.

Wouldn't be surprised if they have Jax on the short list for new locations.

BLOOMIES?

IVEY'S? WHERE IS YOUR LOYALTY?? J.B.? I MISS YOU!!

J.B. Iveys was a different animal, and Cohen Brothers even grander. Iveys was murdered by Dillards, even wiping the floor with 20 year executive officers they initially promised to protect. The cuts to Cohen Brothers were even worse, and this from a guy who's wife had juist be promoted to "Division" offiver at Iveys.

Everybody knows if you want class you go to Bloomingdales or Saks, hell's bells, Macy's does't have a product as provoctavie as the Pantie with "BLOOMIES" scrawled across the rump. Eat your hearts out MACYS!

Quite frankly, I'm over Macy's.  There really isn't anything sold there that I can't find at a store here in Jacksonville.

As for the above quote, technically, Macy's didn't say that.  The person who answers that column in the Times Union did.  Just sayin'.....
