Good news in Springfield

It's a youth organization aimed at at-risk children, mostly in low-income housing projects.

They have an academic, athletic, and healthy living components in which they are, apparently, very successful (some of the stats read were impressive).

If I heard correctly, and think I did, of the kids they worked with over a 5 year span:
100% graduated high school
70% went to college
0% teen pregnancies

The city sent notices to the Walnut address so I never received them.  I ended up having to pay 1500.00 to the city for stealing my firewood and mowing the lawn.  All the guy had to do was call me and let me know it was bothering him and I would have taken care of it.

I would hope everyone knows by know that lawns grow quickly in Florida and need to be mowed regularly. It should not take someone to call. Nothing personal, but we have a neighbor who only mowes once we call him. So I thought I throw that out there as a reminder for people waiting to be called to take action.

SPR Chili Cook-offis today....1-4pm, at Three Layers. Sponsered by the Wine Society, benefiting non-profits. Which is very good news.

Also, Mayor Peyton will be at City Kidz Cafe today @ 11am, to cap off a morning celebration of Financial Literacy Day. Channel 4 will be there too. Good news as well.

It was a shame that they didnt open their chocolate factory Downtown.  That would have been a pretty awesome project about now.

This doesn't sound like the same thing, unless the location is wrong.  All of the buildings on Pearl between 9th & 10th are much smaller than what they we're talking about when they were interested in DT and the Landing.  So either this is a new concept or they shrunk the idea down.
