All blocks north of College Street to I-10 that are located between Stockton Street on the west and Margaret Street on the east are included.

Where:

Church of the Good Shepherd (located at the corner of Stockton St. & Park St.). The meeting will take place in the Worsham Room (enter parking lot from Forbes St.).

When:
Tuesday, September 8 at 7 PM.

Who should attend:
We need all interested residents - homeowners & renters - at the organizational meeting.

Please also consider if you are willing to serve as a Block Captain. The time requirements are minimal (3 to 4 hours a month) but the rewards are great as we work to make Riverside "crime free".

We Need Your Active Participation

In response to a significant increase in burglaries and other property crimes, Riverside Avondale Preservation has assisted in organizing a Neighborhood Watch Program for the area shown on the map.

There are 4 important reasons for attending this meeting:

  • We need more participants for the Neighborhood Watch. This meeting wil explain how we can prevent crime by working together as a community.
  • We need to recruit additional Block Captains. Block Captains help coordinate the Neighborhood Watch on every block and are essential to its success. This will require only a few hours of your time each month.
  • We need to explain the electronic alert and web-based communication system that will keep participants informed.
  • We need to discuss several specific strategies that we plan to implement and we need your ideas and suggestions.

We know that police resources are limited. The best solution is a well organized Neighborhood Watch that can help prevent crime.

If you can't attend the organizational meeting but would still like to participate, please e-mail us at info@riversideavondale.org. Please use "Neighborhood Watch" in the subject line of your e-mail and be sure to give us your name and phone number.

Neighborhood Watch Meeting - September 8 at 7 PM

Church of the Good Shepherd (Park St. @ Stockton St.)

Dear Riverside Resident:

On July 14th we held the first organizational meeting for a RAP Assisted Neighborhood Watch.  This new RAP Assisted Neighborhood Watch is for the areas north of College Street to I-10, bounded on either side by Stockton St. and Margaret St.

Approximately 60 of your neighbors attended this meeting.

We are having a follow-up organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 8 at the Church of the Good Shepherd located at the corner of Park and Stockton. The meeting will begin at 7 PM in Worsham Hall (enter from Forbes Street). The meeting will last no longer than 1 hour.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss specific plans for how our Neighborhood Watch will operate, including our plans for interactive web-based communications. We also need your ideas on how we can work together to prevent crime.

If you can't attend this follow-up meeting but would still like to participate, please e-mail us at info@riversideavondale.org. Please use "Neighborhood Watch" in the subject line of your e-mail and be sure to give us your name and phone number.

I missed the meeting, had my kids. Any earth-shattering revelations??

let me guess:

1) know your neighbors & report any suspicious activities
2) lock your doors and windows
3) have appropriate lighting
4) an alarm system or dog doesn't hurt
5) instead of throwing the box on an expensive new item in the trash, cut it up and put it in a bag

anymore common sense advice that normal people with brains would know?

I went to the meeting last night and though smaller than the previous one, it was well attended. All you have to do is read today's news about Jacksonville and Neptune beach car burglaries to realize that what seems common sense to you is not to some people.

The people at the meeting had some great ideas - including getting small businesses involved, handling alley clean up and trespass problems, holiday display thefts and graffiti. RAP is putting together a rapid response plan for suspicious activity to alert neighbors and a patrol is being established for the streets in the watch area. Pretty good beginning. The test will come November-January.

The Compound

One side of my rental duplex on the 2500 block of Post street was robbed today at about 10am. FYI!  I was at the meeting last night as well.
