QuoteHospice responds to Mica calling end of life counselors "death counselors"

Congressman John Mica told WDBO's Jim Turner Wednesday morning that end of life care counseling is really death counseling.

Bob Wilson is the founder and CEO of the Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs. He takes exception to Congressman Mica's choice of words.

"It is certainly not death counselors, it's the same as a living will," Wilson said. "Who's not for the concept of a living will and people's autonomy to make a choice and have the options presented to them?"

Wilson says the furor over end of life care counseling and health care reform reminds him of the Terri Schiavo situation.

"In hindsight, it was shameful," Wilson said. "It didn't produce any more value of life. And I think this is a similar kind of scare tactic that has no basis in reality."

Faye, please reconsider and edit the title of this post.

It is not fair to use this website to call a potential political opponent of yours in the upcoming election a liar.
Faye is an aspiring politician?

Hence the faith in politicians!

Good luck in your endeavors, and if you find success, please be merciful on the taxpayers. ;D

So whats all this about Faye?

What was the context?

It's the rhetoric that feeds the "pulling the plug on grandma" nonsense that the anti-healthcare reform folks have been using to rile up the mis-informed.

lol thanks for the definition.

But what happened?

I think its shameful btw, to keep using the "Unplug Granny" bs here in Florida.

So many senior citizens, and they are scaring these poor people to death.

Ooops I guess we posted at the same time, saying the same thing lol

Hmmm, that would eliminate just about everyone in US Congress including John Mica himself who is 67!

Bet I wont make it to 55

The past week I have...
Had a cop pull a gun on me with the safty off, had my truck slide off the road into a ditch from rain and a slick road, and been bitten by a rattlesnake.

If I make it to 30 it will suprise everyone.

What was your take on the whole Terri Schiavo thing?

Not that I had a definitive opinion on the matter. I had a "split decision" among my inner voices.

Well, I don't think it was something our lawmakers should have gotten involved with, but I did have serious concerns about withholding food being classified as withholding lifesupport.

A baby cannot feed itself and many disabled people such as my son couldn't either. It would be considered abuse to withhold food from babies and the disabled.

On the other hand, my dad has stage IV kidney cancer and has advanced directives refusing lifesupport, and I admire him for choosing to do that.

So like you, since Terri couldn't speak for herself, I had very mixed feelings about her case.

Hmmm... was it John Mica or Cliff Stearns that thinks the U.N. has a plot to replace U.S. soverignty with a global government?  Which one thought the naming of the St. Johns River as an American Heritage River was part of another sinister plot?  Regardless, its seems some of these guys are filled with more than a fair share of paranoia and need counseling.
Hey!  Whatever happened to just plain ol' COMMON SENSE!!

I remain wary of designs toward a one world governmet.

There are most assuredly many within the UN with such desires. After all, they are but another bureaucracy.
They tend to expand and perpetuate.

Yeah, either they themselves are filled with paranoia or they know that stoking the fires of paranoia with the regular guys on the street, keeps our government from being able to make any progress at all. I call it the politics of distraction, but it's amazing how many people even buy into this nonsense.

It all started with Reagan saying: "Government is not the solution to our problem government IS the problem "

Well, they are making the government BE the problem, by distributing false and misleading information.

What irks me most is why these people even work for the government, if they don't believe in it.
