Not sure. I've given Woody's a few tries in the past and I just didn't care for their food- they catered a christmas party at my job a few years ago and everyone got food poisoning and I haven't been back since. Sad to see the lost jobs but I'm not going to miss them. Plus the one on Roosevelt had that poor girl that had to dance around outside in the pig costume- that must've been brutal in this heat.

Apparently only 1 WD (Baymeadows/ 9A) will be closed in Jax

Winn-Dixie Stores

No. of Stores Closing: 30

Great Atlantic A&P isn't the only supermarket chain reducing its store count. Winn-Dixie Stores (WINN) announced in late July that it will close 30 older and under-performing stores by Sept. 22. The stores are located across five southern states, but more than half are in the company's home state of Florida. Management of the supermarket chain said it expects sales to deteriorate in the fourth quarter, but it's moving forward with plans to renovate other stores.

Too bad about that one, but I don't think I've ever been there on a busy day. That's without a doubt a Publix area though- there's one across the street, one just down Baymeadows, one a little further down Southside Blvd and the one at the Town Center- crazy!

Just returned with grandson Robert on a tour of all of the orange signs that have popped up in the World Golf Village this month. Weird, but we have a sudden land office sale on the premium lot at SR13/16 intersection. Next big sign is a 75,000 sq ft +/- on 9 1/2 acres, "retail shopping plaza" at the corner of SR16/16A. Down the road on International Golf Parkway (IGP), we recently saw the huge movement of dirt at the SW corner of I-95 and IGP, some say to keep a contract, others say to start something big?? Who knows? Stakes at Publix at IGP/16 are said to be a new restaurant - possibly McDonald's. Lastly on the NE corner of IGP suddenly a new sign for over 300,000 sq feet of new retail + 400,000 sq feet of new residential. Toss in Walmart which could be any one of the above and stuff is starting to move South of town.

Missing is the "CONNECTION" between the distant far flung neighborhoods of WGV and our markets, shopping, offices etc... Nothing that is visible makes much sense. Also missing is the SUNSHINE BUS route (the one we don't have that takes morning commuters into the city) or the JTA which doesn't even serve the heavily populated Julington Creek Plantation area. Why? St. Johns County? Hey brother, TAX ME! Make my life better, I'll even vote for the Commuter Rail station at IGP and the FEC RY/Philips Hwy.

St. Auggie

Ock, McD's is going in where vystar was going across from Publix.   Still in permitting, was suppose to be open in Sept.  Walmart is no longer going in there.  They adjusted the plan for medium box retailers like best buy.  County wants more money, about $300,000 to help w/ 2209.  But yes retail is coming in a hurry.

Don't know if it's been reported here, but word is Golf Galaxy near the St. Johns Town Center is also closing.  They were having a pretty big sale this past weekend.

whats up with all the Woody's BBQ closing? Old St Augustine and US 1, Roosevelt Blvd, and US 1 and Baymeadows!

I know it is a Jacksonville based chain but the food is pretty mediocre. I have never been to a Woody's and thought much of the food. The one at Old St Augustine and US1 was a terrible location. Nothing in that area has survived except a Quizno's that mostly just does lunch business. The strip mall across the street is mostly empty except a dry cleaner, hair dresser and insurance office. And honestly, I am not sure how they are making it as the parking lot is usually empty.

I'm surprised at the US 1 & Baymeadows closing, they've always done excellent business for lunch and alright for dinner.

That said, this location is still up and running on their website, the other two are not.

What neighborhood isn't a Publix neighborhood?  If there isn't a Publix nearby I don't want to live there!

Woodys BBQ has always been sub-par...  The only good thing on their menu is the grilled chicken sandwich.

Didn't see it mentioned but The Loop on Old St Augustine/95 in the Publix plaza is closing.

Really? Every time I passed by they seemed to be doing ok, or that may have been for Panera Bread.

I work in that area and had been a few times for lunch. I normally like The Loop but the service at this location was usually mediocre at best.

Here is an article from the T-U that mentions it and the two Woody's closing.

The Big T grill on the corner of Beach and Hodges closed.

A new Thai restaurant is opening in its place.

The Baskin Robbins in the Publix plaza at Beach and San Pablo recently closed as well.

Also, it was maybe two months back, but Salernos (an Italian restaurant) in the Publix plaza at Hodges and JTB closed.

Giovanni's is ceasing operation this weekend after 40+ years.

I'm sad to see them go.

The place is very unique.
