We have the trolley, just need to get the damn JTA to run the thing on a regular basis.

What we really need to look at is Park Street on the backside of 220 Riverside. All those empty buildings, to use that space for more growth, it could become a great entertainment district to feed 220 and the projects going on there, and help with the load that 5-points is receiving, because there will come a time when people avoid the area due to lack of parking and we are going to see issues like the "striping" in 5-points and issues like we are seeing along King Street and with the residents.

JTA is planning BRT down Park Street, so you'll get your regular bus service soon.

Not enough. There needs to be a continuous service route down Park to Edgewood to Herschel and back around on St. Johns down to Riverside and back around again on Park Street, through 5 points. Parking is going to get worse with more bar/restaurants. The establishments should then also have fees tied to support the route and buses, after all, they cannot all provide enough parking spots for their guests.

While its good news for the area, parking would be chaotic over there.

There comes a point in neighborhoods like this where if you are going to drive you may just have to park down the street and walk a couple blocks.  It's the way it is done elsewhere.  But this is good, the conversations about other modes of transportation have begun.  Density and not being able to find parking is not such a bad thing.  It usually means the neighborhood is doing well.

I've never had trouble finding a spot in 5 points, and I frequent the area.
That being said, you've got to be willing to walk 3 blocks, but it's never more than that.

The Flyer will be a bus stopping, at least in Five Points, Park & King, and perhaps Brooklyn, every 10 to 15 minutes. A community shuttle coordinated with the Flyer could be a way to tie in Edgewood and St. Johns Avenue. Anyway, for Riverside to have its own long term continuous loop, it's going to really have to add some true density to support such an operation.

Wholeheartedly agree.  The vibrancy we seek often results from retail and residential density where land uses are NOT spread out by accommodations for cars.  Plenty of cities deal with this in their "happening" districts...and yes, you end up walking a couple blocks (or if out on the town drinking, you "uber in and uber out").  Not that there should be no thought given to parking, but hopefully we are after a broad-based and uninterrupted density of mixed uses.

I really like the look of this.  I think that 5 points is already kind of hectic and you won't be able to feel the increased traffic from hoptinger from a parking perspective.  It's like when MM opened in Avondale.  It was already pretty crowded and you had to walk a block, but that didn't really increase once MM opened.  RPDS really needs to open some of their parking lots during evening hours.  The 5 points merchants association should work on a deal for that.

We've beaten this dead horse in other threads...but there is not, I REPEAT, not a parking problem anywhere in Jacksonville.

Not even close.

Yeah there is - the Church of the Good Shepherd on Forbes. I lived across the street and when they were having services or meetings or whatever (Sundays or weeknights) those c*nts would always park up and down the street and block and either take their spaces or block them in. This isn't due to capacity as much as it is to laziness and just general lack of consideration!

^Sounds like an enforcement problem. Hit them up for a few tickets on Sunday and they'll repent and conform.
