^ I highly doubt the Hoptinger will be building a parking garage.  That would likely need to be a coalition of businesses and/or government.

We will be working with artists from 5 Points for the interior artwork. As we get closer to that time, I'll appreciate any recommendations.

I know you're not ready, yet, but I will be interested when you're starting to look for artists. I live on Forbes down by 5 Points, so I'm definitely a local artist. :)

We don't need a parking garage.

I think it looks good but only time will tell. Another rooftop bar would definitely start to put 5 points on the path towards being a nightlife destination.

?? Because it isn't already? I don't follow...

5 Points is ok but it is not the place to be in Jax at midnight on a Saturday night. The Beaches are way ahead. 5 Points could be a real destination for nightlife. Not just a few bars.

As I'm involved in this project, I'll fill in some gaps.

@Rachel - it will absolutely fit the character of the strip, because it's not up to us. We have to work with the Preservation society and within their bounds. Believe me, there's stuff we'd like to do that would be amazing (that others in the past have been allowed to do), but they want to maintain that same storefront.

We should start buildout in about 45 days. We've been waiting for the owner to finish doing his part so that it's ready for us. As everyone knows, it's an old building; to do what we need to do in there required some extra engineering.

There will be a rooftop bar. It will be bad ass.

There will be cheese curds.

We will be working with artists from 5 Points for the interior artwork. As we get closer to that time, I'll appreciate any recommendations.

For people with parking hangups: we're trying to negotiate to get that big property behind the strip. We will have a back entrance as well, so ideally that will happen. If it does, it will be a huge benefit for the whole area.

Hope this helps.

I saw some more work going on. Any updates on how things are progressing?

Different strokes I guess. Unless I'm being paid, I'm not going to the beach on Friday or Saturday night. The Beach crowd is definitely a younger vibe (or at least they think they just turned 21), where Riverside tends to be a little older. I'm just not a huge fan of Jax Beach culture - I feel like it's where ambition goes to die.

No offense to anyone out there, my personal opinion.

Agreed in some ways. 5 Points could be the next SoHo in Tampa.

Riverside (5 points and King st.) should definitely be trying to emulate what SoHo has developed into! I think there are a lot of commonalities. Hoptinger will go a long way towards realizing this I think.

The beach bars are where UNF students like myself go. I mean occasionally college students go to Riverside but the beaches are just way closer so that's why it seems like everyone just turned 21... because most of us just did haha. It's 100% a younger crowd. But I think that's a good thing because it makes it much more lively. Not that the Riverside scene is old, but a few more college kids wouldn't be a bad thing. All these new bars will go a long way in helping to develop it further.

I would never go to the beaches! My friends go but I prefer the mellow riverside area.

Pretty sure deep fried cheese curds vegan... ;D
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

There will always be more sophisticated bars for older crowds. 5 Points actually is becoming well positioned to be maybe even a cooler strip than SoHo if we get it right. It is more walkable with a cool feel. There is a lot more parking to the northeast that is not on residential streets unlike King St. and Brooklyn is right next door which would help inspire more residential development within walking distance.

They should really do a "First Friday" in 5 Points like is done in St. Pete or Orlando. They are hugely successful. Jax has not had a place with enough bars on a single strip to make something like that happen. Maybe now is the time.
