QuoteThe Florida Supreme Court voted 4-3 on Monday approved the medical marijuana initiative for November ballot.

The drive to get the a constitutional amendment legalizing medical marijuana surpassed the number of needed signatures on Friday.

What does this mean for Florida and for Jacksonville?

Nice!   I don't think it has a chance of passing, but this is a good first step.
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.

I think this has a decent chance of passing. Unfortunately quite a few are already trying to make this issue tied to Charlie Crist's bid for governor and John Morgan, which will probably scare some people away.

I do wish it had a provision to allow those with a prescription to grow their own marijuana, but still a good first step.
I support meaningless jingoistic cliches

Exactly why I think it won't pass.  On it's own it would have a good shot.  But in the heat of that political battle, along with other hot topic amendments on the ballot, make for a polarizing climate to get this passed.

I'm most looking forward to voting for this state Constitutional Amendment.

If it does pass, I expect that it will make for some interesting battles at the local level over allowable zoning districts for dispensaries.  I suspect that it will make the adult entertainment battles look like a walk in the park.

In Colorado and Washington, local municipalities are already passing local laws prohibiting the operation of dispensaries within their City or County in a very similar fashion to what happened at the end of prohibition.

Now, the two states are dealing with dry counties or should we say smokeless counties (NIMBY).  As a child, I remember COJ outlawed alcohol sales on Sunday.  It should be interesting to see the local political ramifications of this push to legalize medical marijuana in Florida.

Your comment about Sunday sales brought up a funny memory. I remember when I first moved to Jax in 1985. The next day after I arrived was a Sunday and I went to close by Winn Dixie on a Sunday morning for beer for the movers who helped. I recall walking up to the beer and it was all covered with heavy plastic curtains.  I though wow. How cool that helps keep the beer really cold!!! Of course when I went to the cashier I got that WTF are you trying to do look.  Then when she found out I had just moved here the day before she got a good laugh out of it.  See, Jax is moving forward!!
