Many blacks in that community affectionately pronounce Myrtle Ave 'Mearl Ave'.

I had an opportunity to spend the afternoon with Melissa Beaudry, Luch Scremin, and Sean Bielman at Engine 15's new production facility in the area formerly known as LaVilla.  They have two pretty cool early 20th century warehouses. They also have some visionary ideas of what the property can become.  I'm going to do a detailed story on the brewery and its past but in the meantime, here are a few pics from today.


Former rail loading dock area. This S-Line rail spur once ended inside of the old Pittsburgh Plate Glass warehouse (see door in image below).




Some former employee had a pretty decent "baby-making" cassette tape.


Beer has been here before. Chattanooga Beer closed in 1915 due to Prohibition, so one of the buildings along the old rail spur must date back before then.

Somebody's Guy Instrumental?? Looks like Vocal version of same song on left column.

That's probably Jocelyn Brown, Somebody's Else's Guy, 1984 -- a big, big hit on the black charts around the same time When Doves Cry came out. Wikipedia indicates the "B" side of the record had an instrumental version of the song.

What are the plans for the neighborhood around the brewery? Does the city have a plan for the area? I like Warren a lot, but I cannot think he can take any credit for what has transpired in Murray Hill, so what would he create or do in this area of Myrtle Avenue?

With Lavilla a ghost town until Brooklyn infill reaches it, I can't see Lavilla supporting the area, not that there is much in the way of nightlife/restaurants in Lavilla - this is where one of the Urban Planners chimes in and says there is a grand plan for the area.
