Waht's with the 16 foot shoulder here?  Seems a little excessive.

^So it can easily be converted to a 3rd lane in each direction with a 4' shoulder.  For potential "future capacity".

Whenever I travel on 295 between Baymeadows and Beach blvd it is a total clusterf***k, no matter the time of day.

Why is it they don't have the money to build enough lanes on 295 in this stretch, yet they are making it rain concrete on 9B?

Also while not related to this, where can I find more information or plans regarding the widening of the turn lanes on US 17 from Wells Road to 295.  I see they purchased the Comfort Inn (probably wasn't cheap) at Wells and 17 and tore it down.  Once again seems like an expensive purchase for a couple of turn lanes.

If you are talking about the hotel that was torn down next to cracker barrel I don't think FDOT purchased that land.  Clay county still lists it owned by someone else and the structure came down months ago.

This is the property I am speaking of:

It is directly at the corner of Wells and 17 (Park Ave.)

^Maybe the FDOT will make the money appear for the last section just like it "magically" appeared for US1 to I-95 segment.

No magic really. FDOT had set aside some money for this, but when the cost of raw materials went through the roof in 2007/2008, they deferred the project as the estimates were coming in way over forecast.

Then the boom went bust. A combination of raw material price reductions combined with some changes in the design to save money and some more aggressive bidding by contractors made the project possible.

Many projects that got deferred by FDOT due to the bubble in raw materials are starting to come back now.

9B is moving along very quickly.

As Phase 2 is well underway now.

Meanwhile they are still working out the kinks in Phase 3

Does anyone know when/if they plan to connect Nocatee Parkway to the Race Track Connector?

I wasn't aware that they would be connecting them. The Race Track Road connector seems to be a new addition that came with the revamp of the SR 9B phase 3 concept.

I wasn't aware until last year I noticed that Nocatee Parkway ends at US 1 with a slab extension, not a drift ramp. So I checked and noticed that FDOT owned some parcels in and around the dog track west of US1.  But every time I went to the FDOT plan for 9B it always showed 9B making a curled loop back to end at Race Track. Even Google Maps shows "I-795" doing a back curl to Race Track Road.

Then I found this planning map from St Johns County which shows Nocatee Parkway being extended south of the dog track and connecting with 9b via the "Race Track Connector" and it being called "Durbin Parkway". This makes sense now and explains the connector.

I just haven't seen any dates around it as of yet.
