So does this kill the idea of a Ferris wheel in downtown?

A Midwestern developer plans to build a more than $100 million entertainment and adventure resort in Kingsland, Ga., 40 miles north of Jacksonville.

The 574-acre project, proposed by Minneapolis-based Real Development Corp., is expected to create more than 800 jobs for residents of both Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida when it opens in 2014.

Located along Interstate-95, the resort’s entertainment district is expected to attract more than 500,000 visits annually.

So far, the company is willing to say that it will build a hotel and conference center, a family oriented entertainment hub and adventure park with 14 venues, a bowling center, a state-of-the-art zip line, high ropes and a challenge course, restaurants, shops, a multiplex theater, an amphitheater and a water park.

I must have missed it somewhere.  There is a ferris wheel planned for DT?

Sounds great.  All were missing is about 7 million residents and 40 million, or so, annual tourist.  But who's counting.

A $100M amusement complex off I-95 in Kingsland...  random.

The old paper mill site in St. Marys might be a little more fitting, but either way it seems like a strange place for something like that.

It is very random, especially because there is a water-park on Jekyll Island and Wild Adventures in Valdosta; both of which surprised me the first time I went.  Both parks were a lot better than I was expecting.

So what opens first? The amusement park in Kingsland or the Mooneyhan thing in Jacksonville?

My money is on me winning the lottery twice and finding a pot of gold at the end of the next rainbow before Friday.

Better yet, we'll see Sleiman become a vocal advocate of the mobility fee first.

This adventure park complex is a different animal than Wild Adventures which is a theme park, it doesn't have any rollercoasters (which I was hoping for) and it's has specifically family attractions; Both places aren't exactly a stone's throw away from each other, with one being in the I-75 corridor and all. Water parks will always be popular family places to cool off, esp in the Southeast; It's not uncommon for waterparks to be clustered, or relatively nearby each other, like up in Wisconsin Dells. Summer Waves, and Shipwreck Island (Adv Landing) are both doing fine in the same region.

What made me chuckle is they stated " We hope to attract tourist from JAcksonville." Okay so you build it outside of Jacksonville and want people from Jacksonville to come visit? Why not build it IN Jacksonville?
