I agree that River City is disappointingly bad. At least its beer, I can't speak to the food. But we went there for the first time in years last year to have a couple of beers on the deck. Won't do that again.
But Aardwolf in San Marco, that's very good news.

Let the race begin! Would love if in the next 10-20 years Jax was the Portland of the Southeast.

No, we're not Portland, we're not Denver! This is Florida, so let's be Florida. Originality, people! It's gets you places.

I can't speak for the other guy, but my comment was tongue in cheek. You know...Jacksonville has so many breweries that we should start calling ourselves Denver South. More a commentary on the fact that we have a lot of breweries and less about an actual marketing concept.

Reading comprehension gets you places too...

I understand that Denver has a lot of breweries, but we need to stop comparing ourselves to other cities. Continuing to do that will never get Jacksonville anywhere. Just be Jacksonville (in a positive, non-Hoganite way LOL).

I should be more specific. I think it's awesome that all the breweries are coming in. I hope they start huge marketing across the country. I know Landshark did. Let everyone get a taste of us, lol. But let's do it our way. You know what I mean?

To clarify (sidebar) - is all Landshark brewed in Jax?  Did it start here?

I believe so.

QuoteLand Shark Lager, brewed in Jacksonville, Florida, is a 4.7% abv pale lager launched in 2006 as the house lager for "Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville" restaurant chain. Under a sponsorship deal, Dolphin Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, and the Miami Hurricanes was renamed "Land Shark Stadium" for the 2009 football season. The contract ended in early 2010, and the stadium has since been renamed "Sun Life Stadium" as of January 18, 2010 in time for both the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XLIV.[20][21][22]
Land Shark also has restaurants in Pensacola, Florida and in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.[23]
Jimmy Buffett's song "Fins" is about "sharks that can swim on the land," (in reference to men in a beach town trying to woo a vacationing woman) while the landshark is a recurring character portrayed by Chevy Chase in the TV show Saturday Night Live.

Landshark isn't a separate brewery or company, it's a brand of beer made by Anheuser-Busch InBev. It is brewed at the Bud brewer here in town. Beyond the marketing it's really no more separate than Bud Lite.

In contrast, Intuition, Bold City, Green Room, and now hopefully Aardwolf are independently owned breweries and their own companies.

The Asheville area is busting with breweries. For a place with smaller population, they are supporting more than 6 breweries. Another thing to note is that this came on the heels of the revitalization of the urban area of Asheville turning it into a hot destination spot instead of a run-down mill town. Could this be a good sign for Jacksonville?

Exactly right, Landshark is akin to Sprite for Coke. It is a flavor produced by A-B at the Jacksonville brewery.

According to Asheville's city website, there are currently eight breweries in the area including Highlands Brewery whose beers are available here in Jax. By 2013 there will be another major addition: Sierra Nevada is building their second brewery there. Asheville has also been voted Beer City USA for three years in a row ahead of such beer cities as St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Portland.

I thought everybody already knew Landshark was just an AB brand.

It no longer says "Brewed in Jacksonville, FL" on Landshark bottles.  Last couple times I have checked it hasn't been on there.  Very sad news.

I always thought Margaritaville Brewing Co. (Landshark) was to AB what Plank Road Brewery was to Miller.
