Other than the Jag's GM, anyone else want Bill O'Brien?

Not for a HC position. I could see him being considered for a coordinator job.

Unfortunately the Jags will now have to compete with the other 5 franchises who fired their head coach today. Another mistake, 2 outstanding candidates available and neither hired.  The league changed the damn rules to gives teams like the jags a chance to interview/ hire before the end of the season. Missed opportunity.

This is so true and was easy to see coming. This alone is reason enough to fire the GM.

Add the NY Giants to the mix.

I do not have a lot of confidence that Khan will handle this well. He did not get rid of Trent Baalke yet, so that is alarming.

Nothing personal against Byron Leftwich, but I do not want one first time NFL head coach followed by ANOTHER first time NFL head coach. There are excellent candidates out there who have been to the Super Bowl.   For God's sake Shad, DON'T SCREW THIS UP!

Oh no MM... it IS Byron Leftwich...rofl...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Khan is clueless.  Yay for US!  Passing over 2 proven NFL head coach's with awesome resumes to, again, hire a GUy with no head coaching experience, I guess we will all see this play out.

Leftwich and Baalke leading us to the promised land.   YIKES!

Khan: "I know we got the right man for the job"

Everyone else: "Based on what?"

Coaching career
Arizona Cardinals
On May 9, 2016, Leftwich was hired by the Arizona Cardinals as a coaching intern during training camp. He was given the duty to help train the Cardinals quarterbacks.[29] On January 27, 2017, Leftwich was hired by the Cardinals as their quarterbacks coach under head coach Bruce Arians, who had been his offensive coordinator on the Pittsburgh Steelers.[30] On October 19, 2018, after the Cardinals fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Leftwich was promoted to take over his role as interim offensive coordinator. On December 31, 2018, Leftwich was fired by the Cardinals, along with head coach Steve Wilks.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
On January 8, 2019, Leftwich was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their offensive coordinator, reuniting with head coach Bruce Arians.[31] Arians, who was returning from retirement, said in an interview with ESPN that he "wouldn't have taken the job if it wasn't for general manager Jason Licht, and probably wouldn't have taken the job if Byron Leftwich wasn't available".[32]

After the 2020 regular season, Arians stated that he had delegated the offense to Leftwich, and expressed frustration that the coordinator was not interviewed by other NFL teams for a head coaching position.[33][34] At the end of that season, their second with Arians and Leftwich, the Buccaneers won Super Bowl LV.

Call me crazy but it appears he owes his coaching career to Bruce Arians.

Papa33

Whoever the coach is, I'd like that person to bring back Keenan McCardell to coach the receivers.  He's the one coach I thought Meyer should have tried to keep.

Just about everyone owes their career to someone.  Arians supported Leftwich and Leftwich has made the most of it.  Some would say you owe your real estate career to the free consulting you get on this forum.

It worked out for Pittsburgh with Mike Tomlin, Bill Cowher, and Chuck Noll. All three of those folks have been a NFL Head Coach once.

Reminder....that is the entire list of Steelers head coaches since 1969.

Said differently: There is no "right" way to do it. Clearly the Rooney family knows how to hire, since I don't believe in luck 3 times.

Captain, please keep your opinion to yourself until you've spoken with some of my customers. You want a list I'll send it.  I owe nothing to this forum.

Leftwich has 2 years as a coordinator in the NFL. He's the least qualified in terms of NFL experience of all the candidates we interviewed. By far. That's my concern.  We might get lucky.  But Khan's track record has been poor. That we know.

Captain Zissou

Feel free to DM me a list of references.

In defense of Byron Leftwich... Matt LaFluer of Green Bay had similar credentials... he has won 13 games in each of the 3 years as Packers head coach...  He has served as the quarterback coach of the Washington Football Team (then known as the Washington Redskins) and the Atlanta Falcons and has been the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams and the Tennessee Titans.

He held each position for a year...

Saw a clip the other day of LeSean McCoy saying how impressed he was with Byron Leftwich when he played under him in Tampa. Byron made it a point to give people playing time so they could hit the performance incentives in their contracts. The team still needs more than a few good players but it seems that Byron can be a coach that players can rally around.

Leftwich is my number one choice, by a mile.

And I swear, if the Jags find a way to screw this up (rumor is they lowballed Byron either on money or length of contract), I might finally be done with this franchise.

Ho boy:

If we pick Trent over Byron, I'm done.

Could see a darkest timeline scenario where Eberflus takes the Bears job, Byron nopes out not wanting to be the sixth HC in six years to be fired under Baalke, and we're left promoting Bevell to HC.
